October 23, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the team has recalled forwards Riley Emmerson and Jacob Micflikier from the Florida Everblades.
"We wanted to bring up Riley to give him the opportunity to increase the physical aspect of our game," said Gage.
"Jacob had a great training camp with us and we're looking for him to provide an extra spark to our offense, added Gage. "He is a solid player with outstanding vision and has proved in short stints the last two seasons that he can be a capable scorer at the American Hockey League level."
Emmerson, whose rights belong to the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League, arrives in Rochester after appearing in one game with the Florida Everblades (ECHL) to start the 2008-09 season.
Before joining the Everblades, the 6-foot-8, 245-pound hard-nosed forward spent back-to-back seasons (2006-08) with the Texas Wildcatters (ECHL) where he registered seven points (4+3) and 241 PIM in 93 total games. He recorded his best season as a pro during the 2007-08 campaign, posting career-highs in all offensive categories in goals (2), assists (2), points (4) and PIM (142).
Prior to turning pro, the 22-year-old native of Vancouver, British Columbia, played three seasons (2003-06) of junior hockey with the Chilliwack Chiefs (BCHL) and Tri-City Americans (WHL), compiling a career total of eight points (1+7) to go along with 307 PIM in 153 appearances. Emmerson's best season of junior hockey came in 2003-04, racking up six assists in 52 games with Chilliwack. Emmerson was Minnesota's seventh-round pick (199th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry draft.
Micflikier receives his first promotion of the season to the AHL after a brief two-game stint with the Florida Everblades to start the season. Micflikier is currently tied for second on the team in points after collecting a pair of assists to help the Everblades to a 1-1-0 record to kickoff the ECHL season.
Prior to his reassignment to Florida, Micflikier appeared in all three preseason games with the Amerks, recording a goal on October 2nd against the Syracuse Crunch.
Micflikier split the 2007-08 season between the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL and the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. The 24-year-old skated in 29 regular season games with the Thunder, registering 37 points (10+27) and 29 PIM, while also pitching in 13 points (4+9) in six Kelly Cup Playoff games. He also saw action in eight games with the Falcons where he scored five points (1+5).
Micflikier made his professional debut in 2006-07 when he appeared in nine games with Springfield, tallying three goals and adding an assist. Prior to turning pro, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native, completed a four-year collegiate career at the University of New Hampshire where he posted 150 points (58+92) in 154 games. His best season came during his sophomore year in 2004-05 when he notched 44 points in 42 games.
