ALLEN, Texas - The Allen Americans overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 4-3 in a shootout tonight at the Allen Event Center. The win brings their overall record to 19-7-2 (40 points) and advances their series record with the 'Bugs to 2-0-0.

The Americans struck first for the second time this weekend when Christian Gaudet backhanded a pass to Justin Bowers. Bowers then popped the puck into a wide-open net. The Mudbugs responded with a goal at 13:29 from defenseman David Pszenyczny. Late in the first, the Americans had a goal disallowed because of goalie interference. The period ended 1-1.

Allen found themselves down by two goals after the second period when Bossier-Shreveport received a five-minute power play early in the middle frame. Christian Gaudet was called for checking from behind and received a major penalty and a game misconduct. Mudbug Travis Clayton, who was on the receiving end of Gaudet's hit, scored at 5:29, and Joe Blaznek lit the lamp at 6:10.

Captain Jarret Lukin scored for the Americans at 9:32 of the third to cut the Mudbugs' lead to one. Then, defenseman Jordie Benn notched one on the power play at 11:44 to tie the game. Americans Head Coach and General Manager Dwight Mullins called a timeout at 4:42 of the third to regroup, but Allen didn't score in the remaining minutes of regulation.

Fans were treated to extra hockey for the second consecutive night at the Allen Event Center when the game went into overtime. Both teams failed to score in the five-minute period, and the game went to a shootout.

Justin Bowers and Colton Yellow Horn were the only Americans to score in the shootout, and Chris Whitley stopped every shot he faced except for one from Jeff Kyrzakos. Whitley made 31 saves tonight.

Prior to tonight's game, the Americans placed forward Tobias Whelan on 14-day IR retroactive to Dec. 26 and also activated Bill Loupée from IR.

The Americans travel to Wichita for their first game against the team Thursday, Dec. 31, at 5:05 p.m. Allen then hosts Colorado Friday, Jan. 1, and Laredo Saturday, Jan. 2. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
