Brown's Shutout Leads Amarillo To Victory

Amarillo, TX 12/27/09 - Gorillas goaltender Mike Brown made 39 saves for his second shutout of the season Sunday night, as the Amarillo Gorillas downed the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 1-0.

The opening period did not produce any goals, but Amarillo did garner several quality scoring chances. The Gorillas out shot the Bees 14 to 6 and went 0 for 1 with the man advantage. Amarillo 0 Rio Grande Valley 0 after one period of play.

Amarillo found the back of the onion bag at the 6:14 mark of the second, as forward Gordon Bell poked home a David Nimmo feed from the top of the Rio crease, giving the Gorillas the 1-0 lead. Amarillo out shot the Bees for the second straight period 16 to 6. Score after two, Amarillo 1 Rio Grande Valley 0.

Bees goaltender Wylie Rogers earned the game's third star due to his spectacular play in final frame, including a Stuart MacRae breakaway. Gorillas goaltender Mike Brown stopped the final Bees avalanche of shots in the final seconds, giving Amarillo the 1-0 win.

Amarillo goaltender Mike Brown collected his second shutout and first since opening night versus Wichita.Bell's second period goal was his first since November 25th.Amarillo improved their record when scoring first, now 9-1.

Amarillo will hit the road tonight in order to play the Arizona Sundogs this Tuesday, December 29th. The game will be broadcasted on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV beginning at 7:55pm CST.
