Brown's Shutout Leads Amarillo To Victory

Amarillo, TX 12/27/09 - Gorillas goaltender Mike Brown made 39 saves for his second shutout of the season Sunday night, as the Amarillo Gorillas downed the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 1-0.
The opening period did not produce any goals, but Amarillo did garner several quality scoring chances. The Gorillas out shot the Bees 14 to 6 and went 0 for 1 with the man advantage. Amarillo 0 Rio Grande Valley 0 after one period of play.
Amarillo found the back of the onion bag at the 6:14 mark of the second, as forward Gordon Bell poked home a David Nimmo feed from the top of the Rio crease, giving the Gorillas the 1-0 lead. Amarillo out shot the Bees for the second straight period 16 to 6. Score after two, Amarillo 1 Rio Grande Valley 0.
Bees goaltender Wylie Rogers earned the game's third star due to his spectacular play in final frame, including a Stuart MacRae breakaway. Gorillas goaltender Mike Brown stopped the final Bees avalanche of shots in the final seconds, giving Amarillo the 1-0 win.

Amarillo will hit the road tonight in order to play the Arizona Sundogs this Tuesday, December 29th. The game will be broadcasted on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV beginning at 7:55pm CST. Fans will have an opportunity to win an autograph photo of Gorillas forward Jason Chafe during the second period of the game broadcast by answering a trivia question on the Gorillas' Facebook page.
