Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 27)- The Brahmas hosted the Wichita Thunder at the NYTEX Sports Centre with the storyline of: puck is shot, found and gloved by Texas rookie goaltender Joe Palmer; but done 39 times. Palmer earned his second career shutout against the Thunder in a 2-0 victory.
It was their first matchup this season against the last ranked penalty killing unit of Wichita, and the Brahmas took advantage when a pass from behind the net by Elias Godoy found the blade of a charging Tyler Skworchinski who buried it to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. In the second period, Mark Kolanos netted his third goal as a Brahma when he took the puck top shelf on Thunder netminder Scott Campbell.
Things began to get physical between the Northern and Southern Conference opponents as a melee transpired to the right of Campbell's goal between Texas defenseman Ross Rouleau and Chris Kovalcik. As the pair's tilt concluded Brahmas agitator Matt Burto and Jay Henderson punched in their own dance card earning offsetting fighting majors and game misconducts at the 14:37 mark.
Wichita, coming off six straight regulation losses, had frustration mounting in the third period only to result in 20 penalty minutes and a seventh consecutive loss as the Brahmas shut down the Thunder offense. The Brahmas PK unit went a perfect 6 for 6 and stretched their winning streak to six games at home.
The Brahmas host their I-20 neighbors, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, this Wednesday at 7:05 PM at the NYTEX Sports Centre. All youth hockey players wearing their sweaters to the Box Office on Wednesday will receive a free ticket to the game; accompanying adults will receive half-priced tickets. For ticket information please call the Brahmas offices at (817) 336-4423 or check www.brahmas.com.
