Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs dropped their second straight one-goal game Sunday afternoon, falling to the Odessa Jackalopes by a 4-3 mark.
Blasting a one-timer past Kyle McNulty 1:10 after the Sundogs tied the contest at three, Mike Ramsay collected his second of the night and the eventual game-winner with 7:25 remaining in the game.
Power-play opportunities were lopsided in the contest with Odessa receiving 11 chances and Arizona just three. The Sundogs converted once however while holding the Jackalopes scoreless with the man advantage.
Rookie Jason Reese opened scoring in the contest with his first goal as a Sundog and fourth of the year 8:16 into the opening frame from Kim Karsberg and Steve Potvin to give Arizona an early 1-0 lead.
Odessa though responded with a pair of first-period tallies from Ramsay and Collin Circelli to take a 2-1 advantage heading into the first intermission.
Ramsay evened the score at one with his 10th of the season at the 14:20 mark from Alex Dunn and netminder Joel Martin before Circelli grabbed a one-goal lead for the Jackalopes late in the first from Paul Kelly and Jean Bourbeau with 2:22 remaining on the opening period clock.
The two teams traded a pair of goals in the middle period as Odessa held onto a one-goal cushion after 40 minutes of play.
Dunn picked up his second point of the night from Sebastien Thinel and Philippe Plante just 33 seconds into the second, beating Kyle McNulty with an unchallenged wrist shot from between the circles to give his club a 3-1 lead.
Kevin Gardner pulled his club back to within one with a power-play marker with 4:18 to play in the period following a failed clearing attempt by the Jackalopes.
With an Odessa player trying to send the puck the length of the ice, Gardner forced a turnover below the circles in the Jackalopes' zone before turning and firing a wrist shot high through traffic past the glove of Martin.
Torren Delforte collected his 11th goal of the season at 11:25 of the third period, banging home a rebound at the far post to even the score at three just as a Sundogs' power-play came to an end.
Assisting on the equalizer midway through the final frame were Potvin and Kyle Hood.
Shots were even in the contest, 36-36, as McNulty finished with 32 saves to Martin's 33.
The Sundogs return home for four straight beginning Tuesday at 7:05pm against the Amarillo Gorillas. Tickets start at just $14 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.gettix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
