Americans Fool Bees 4-2, Take 2-0 Series Lead

ALLEN, Texas- The Allen Americans defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees Friday night, 4-2 in front of 3,074 at the Allen Event Center. The Americans now hold a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five series.

The first period saw the Killer Bees throw a strong attack at the Americans, but Goaltender Chris Whitley was up to the task, stopping all 7 shots that came his way. Juliano Pagliero was equally solid at the opposite end, making 9 saves on 9 Allen shots in the first frame.

In the second period, the Americans broke the scoreless tie on a Bruce Graham power play goal at 7:45. Graham picked up a loose puck in the slot, and fired a wrist shot past Pagliero to give the Americans a 1-0 lead.

Just over two minutes later, Jarret Lukin scored on a one-timer from Judd Blackwater to give the Americans a 2-0 lead.

Early on in the third period the Bees struck with a Tomas Klempa tally to bring themselves within one goal.

Colton Yellow Horn would answer with a power play goal of his own at 15:49 of the period to give the Americans a 3-1 lead. Shortly thereafter, Tobias Whelan corralled a puck in the slot and fired it top shelf by the blocker of Pagliero to extend the Americans lead to 4-1.

With just 27-seconds remaining in the contest, the Killer Bees got a goal from Brett Clouthier to draw one closer as before the buzzer would sound.

Following the victory, Allen now heads to South Texas looking to wrap up the best-of-5 series. The Americans will in Game Three Sunday afternoon at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 PM.

If necessary, the Americans and Bees will play Game Four in Hidalgo as well, which would take place Monday night at 7:05. Game Five if necessary will take place in Allen, Saturday April 9th at 7:30 PM.
