Mississippi RiverKings News Release

TULSA, OK --- The Mississippi RiverKings defeated the Tulsa Oilers 3-1 on Friday, April 1st, taking a 2-0 lead in games in the Berry Conference first round best-of-five series.

Mississippi took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Evgeny Timkin and Patrik Levesque. Timkin scored at 8:08 of the first on an assist from Brennan Sarazin. Levesque's goal came after Tulsa goaltender Trevor Cann couldn't control the puck and it trickled into the net. Timkin and Andrew Lackner both assisted on the Levesque red-lighter.

Both Levesque and Timkin each scored their second goals of the playoffs in the first period.

Goaltenders dominated play in the second period, but Michel Beausoleil finally got the Oilers on the scoreboard with a power play goal at 16:41, assisted by Tom Dignard and Chad Costello. Beausoleil was just able to deflect the puck, which just got by RiverKings' goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy and barely was tucked inside the goal post for the score. Mississippi still led 2-1 after two periods.

There was no scoring in the third period until Tulsa pulled goaltender Trevor Cann for an extra attacker, but Chris Richards slid the puck inside the goal post with 32 seconds remaining for the insurance goal and a 3-1 victory.

Pechurskiy (2-0) won his second straight playoff game with a 23-save performance, while Cann lost in his first playoff appearance after stopping 23 shots as well.

Mississippi failed to score in nine power play chances, while Tulsa finished 1-for-6.

Game three of the series moves back to the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven for a 5:05 PM start this Sunday afternoon. For RiverKings' ticket information, call 662-342-1755 or go online to www.riverkings.com today!
