Allen Americans News Release

Fort Worth, Texas - The Americans and Fort Worth Brahmas squared off Saturday night in the first of three meetings over the next four days between the cross-town rivals. Fort Worth came out on top Saturday night 6-1 at NYTEX Sports Centre.

Allen opened up the scoring on the power play, an area they've been wanting to improve on lately, when Brian McMillin notched his 11th goal of the year assisted by Anthony Maiani and Tyler Ludwig at 4:24 of the first period.

Fort Worth came back to knot the score with a power play goal of their own when Phil Fox scored at 13:14 on assists from Ross Rouleau and Brendon Hodge. The score remained tied through the first period as did the shots on net at 7-7.

John Snowden extended the Fort Worth lead with his mark coming at the 8:51 mark on an assist from Phil Fox. Ross Rouleau then added another goal for Fort Worth to extend their lead to two goals just past the midway mark of the game at 10:24, assisted by Sy Nutkevich. John Snowden notched his second marker of the night at 17:22, assisted by Phil Fox and Brendon Hodge to take the commanding 4-1 lead. Allen edged the Brahmas in shots on goal 12-11 and held the two period edge in shots 19-18.

Fort Worth made good work on the power play again to build their dominating lead when Austin Mayer lit the lamp at 5:42, assisted by John Snowden and Greg Eskedjian. Just 30 seconds later, the Brahmas added another goal this time from Sy Nutkevich on assists by Shawn Szydlowski and Tomas Klempa to bring their lead to 6-1. Several 5 on 3 penalties had to be killed by the Americans in the period, limiting their chances to get any offense going and allowing the Brahmas to outshoot them 17-2 in the third for a three period total of 35-21.

The game turned out of control in the third period after several fights broke out on the ice including both goaltenders, Aaron Dell of the Americans, and Kristofer Westblom of Fort Worth. There was a combined total of 200 penalty minutes on Saturday night between the two clubs, along with several ejections.

The Americans return home to the Allen Event Center Sunday afternoon for their second of three meeting against the Brahmas, the puck drop is scheduled for 4:05PM.
