Allen Americans News Release
Independence, MO - The Allen Americans third period rally fell a little short, as the Missouri Mavericks ended their losing skid with a 4-3 victory over the Americans, and ending Allen's winning streak at two games.
The Americans gave up three first period goals, including a power play goal, to put Missouri in command through twenty minutes of play. Ryan Obucowski, Justin Selman and Darren Nowick all scored for the Mavericks in the first, as Missouri outshot the Americans 16 to 9.
Missouri added to their lead in the second period as Matt Finn fired home his first of the season, giving the Mavericks a 4-0 lead and ending the day for Riley Gill. Jamie Murray stopped all six shots he faced in the second period and the Americans trailed 4-0 after 40 minutes of play.
The game changed for the Americans in the third period as Allen scored three times. Travis Brown opened the scoring for the Americans with a ripper from the left face-off circle for his second of the season, from Greger Hanson and Matt Willows. Allen cut the lead to 4-2, on the sixth of the season from Spencer Asuchak, on a 5-on-3 power play with the extra attacker on the ice, from Matt Willows and Chad Costello at the 9:25 mark of the third. Then, Tanner Eberle knocked one home just as the Allen power play expired for his third of the year from Joel Chouinard, to cut the lead to one goal at 4-3. The Americans dominated the third period, outshooting the Mavericks 22-2 in the final frame, but were unable to get a fourth goal past Eamon McAdam and the Missouri Mavericks held on for the 4-3 victory.
"Unfortunately, we didn't come to play in the first and left Riley (Gill) out to dry," said Joel Chouinard. "We finally came alive in the second period. It started with the blocked shot by Dyson Stevenson that really fired the boys up. We came out hard in the third period and made a solid comeback but just ran out of time."
The Americans return home this Saturday night at 7:05 PM to host the Rapid City Rush at 7:05 PM. Tickets are on sale NOW at www.allenamericans.com or call 972-912-1000.
