November 15, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, N.Y. -The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, announced that Mike Radja has been named team captain for the 2016-17 season .
Radja, 31, is in his second stint with the Jackals, after spending the last four seasons overseas . He spent the 2011-12 season in Elmira, putting up 52 points (31g, 21a) in 46 games, while also serving as an alternate captain. Radja wore the "C" for the first time this past weekend after starting the season as one of three alternate captains.
Mike Radja has been named the newest Jackals captain.
"Mike is a real good professional on and off the ice," said Jackals Head Coach Dave Leger. "He's a very experienced player and is a great help to some of our less experienced players as he has played every role in his pro career, from a top line player to a player that sees limited ice time. He is typically first on the ice each day and spends extra time at the end of practice working on his game."
Steven Kaunisto, Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel and Tyson Fawcett will serve as alternate captains. Kaunisto is a permanent alternate captain, while Dieude-Fauvel will wear the second "A" for home games and Fawcett will wear the second "A" during road games.
"Steven is a very good pro and his practice and game habits are excellent," said Leger. "He is a vocal contributor with some of our young defensemen to instill and insist on daily habits. He is positive and always a good example for how our players can improve on a daily basis."
"Benjamin is an intense competitor that holds himself to a high standard of fitness and play on a daily basis," said Leger. "He is a fearless player that is not afraid to stand up for his teammates or his team."
"Tyson is also a fierce and intense competitor who works on his game daily," said Leger. "His successes in the game to date are all as a direct result of his drive and determination to excel. He is relatively young in his pro career, but he represents how we want our young players to transition in the pro game
Kaunisto, 30, and Dieude-Fauvel, 30, are also in their second stints with the Jackals while Fawcett, 23, is in his first year in Elmira.
The Jackals also announced they have released forward Joel Wetmore.
