June 12, 2013 - American Association (AA) News Release
St. Paul 8, Fargo-Moorhead 7
In a back-and-forth game, Saints' 3B Brad Boyer had the last word, smacking a walk-off home run to beat the RedHawks 8-7.
The RedHawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead before St. Paul took charge with a six-run fourth inning. With the score tied at two, SS Joey Becker drove in two runs with a single and Boyer followed with a two-RBI double. Becker finished 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.
Fargo-Moorhead 1B Keith Brachold nearly willed the RedHawks to a win with a fifth-inning three-run home run and a sixth-inning RBI walk, but a Becker RBI double in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at seven, setting up Boyer's heroics.
Saints' relief pitcher Matt Meyer picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings in relief.
Lincoln 13, Sioux Falls 4
The Lincoln Saltdogs scored nine runs in the first three innings Tuesday night and cruised to a 13-4 win against Sioux Falls. 3B Mike Provencher, 2B David Espinosa and CF Stephen Douglas all had home runs in the game. LF Matt Forgatch batted 4-for-5, scoring four runs and stealing three bases. 1B Tyler Goodro went 4-for-6 and tied Provencher with a game-high four RBI. Seven Saltdogs finished with multi-hit games.
Saltdogs' reliever Eddie McKiernan earned the win after allowing one run in four innings of relief, while striking out six.
For the Canaries, RF Nick Baumann batted 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI.
Wichita 11, Winnipeg 0
Wichita had offense to spare in its 11-0 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes, as RHP Jon Link pitched eight shutout innings, striking out six.
The Wingnuts held a slim 1-0 lead on SS Ryan Khoury's first-inning sacrifice fly until the fifth inning, when 2B Abel Nieves blew the game wide open for Wichita with a grand slam. CF Jared McDonald added to the Wingnuts' power surge in the sixth with a three-run homer. McDonald, who led the Wingnuts with three hits, tied Nieves with a game-high four RBI. LF Tim Rotola also had an impressive day at the plate for the Wingnuts, batting 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Kansas City 10, Sioux City 1
Kansas City wasted no time scoring against Sioux City and didn't take its foot off the throttle until the win was firmly in hand. CF Kennard Jones led off the game with a ground-rule double, and 2B Jairo Perez quickly drove him in before the Explorers recorded an out. Perez reached base four times in five plate appearances, batting 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.
Explorers' LF Sam Judah tied the game in the bottom of the first with a sacrifice fly, but when Kansas City kept scoring Sioux City couldn't keep up. T-Bones starter Aaron Tullo got the win, allowing four hits and four walks in his seven innings of work.
T-Bones' 1B Matt Padgett drove in the go-ahead run in the third inning with an RBI single, and a four-run fourth inning helped put the game out of reach. Padgett finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Grand Prairie 8, Laredo 3
The AirHogs used three home runs to overpower Laredo 8-3. CF Keanon Simon, 2B Brandon Pinckney and 3B Frazier Hall all cleared the fence in Tuesday's win. Pinckney led the AirHogs on the night with two hits and three RBI. Starting pitcher Jorge Lugo allowed three runs in six innings, striking out two. The AirHogs' bullpen finished off Laredo with three scoreless innings.
Amarillo 12, El Paso 3
The Amarillo Sox raced out to an 8-0 lead against El Paso and never looked back. A four-run third inning proved the difference in the win. LF David Peralta started the second-inning rally with a two-run home run and 2B Trey Ford kept it going with a two-run double. Peralta and 1B Joe Weik led the Sox with three hits and three RBI each.
Sox starting pitching Ryan Mitchell pitched 5.2 innings in the winning effort, surrendering three runs and striking out six. Amarillo's bullpen dominated the remaining 3.1 innings, keeping the Diablos hitless.
Quebec 3, Gary SouthShore 1
Quebec starter Bryan Rembisz led the Capitales to a 3-1 win, pitching into the ninth inning against Gary SouthShore. He allowed just four hits and one run in 8.1 innings before LHP Casey Harman came on to strike out the remaining two batters for his first save of the season.
The Capitales kicked off the scoring in the top of the second, when C Patrick D'Aoust grounded out to score a run. In the bottom frame, RailCats' C Craig Maddox answered with a solo home run - the only extra-base hit Rembisz would surrender Tuesday - to tie the game at one.
With two outs in the fourth inning, Capitales' SS Jeff Helps drove in the eventual game-winning runs with a two-RBI single. Helps was one of five Capitales with two hits.
