Gary SouthShore 6, Sioux Falls 5 - Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats (4-4) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come back and top the Sioux Falls Canaries 6-5.
The RailCats were trailing 5-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth and after RF Colin Willis reached with a leadoff single, the next two batters went down in order to put the rally in jeopardy. CF Evan Marzilli started the two-out surge with a double to center that plated Willis and then scored himself in the next at bat when SS Marcus Mooney singled. Mooney scored the tying run when 2B Andy DeJesus drew a bases-loaded walk and then 3B Thomas Walraven scored the eventual game winning run when 1B Randy Santiesteban drew another bases-loaded walk one batter later.
For the game, DeJesus, Willis, Marzilli and DH John Price Jr. each had two hits. For the Canaries, 2B Mitch Glasser and DH Jordan Ebert each went 2-for-3 and RF Clint Coulter homered.
St. Paul 2, Sioux City 0 - Box Score
The St. Paul Saints blanked the Sioux City Explorers 2-0 on Saturday evening, holding the Explorers to just five hits along the way.
RF Max Murphy scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run, his third of the year. The Saints added another run in the fifth when SS Joey Wong scored after 3B Chesny Young took first on a fielder's choice. For the game, DH Brady Shoemaker was the only player for either team to have more than one hit as he went 2-for-4. For the Explorers, five different batters each had one hit.
Starting pitcher Spencer Jones earned the win for tossing 5.1 scoreless innings and allowing just two hits, walking one and striking out four. Reliever Todd Van Steensel picked up the save for working the ninth inning.
Chicago 6, Milwaukee 4 - Box Score
Powered by a three-run home run from C Larry Balkwill, the Chicago Dogs edged the Milwaukee Milkmen 6-4.
The Milkmen struck first when 3B Garrett Copeland doubled home RF Nolan Earley (2-for-5), who also doubled, in the top of the first inning. LF Jose Rosario (2-for-4) hit the Milkmen's third straight double in the next at bat to plate Copeland. DH Adam Walker added a solo home run in the third inning for the Milkmen before the Dogs first got on the board in the top of the fourth. 2B Edwin Arroyo (2-for-4) scored the Dogs' first run as DH Kelly Dugan bounced out to second. C Christ Conley scored for Milwaukee in the bottom of the inning but that would be the final run of the day for the Milkmen.
SS Harrison Smith scored in the top of the sixth and Balkwill (2-for-4) hit his three-run shot in the seventh to give the Dogs the lead for good. Smith doubled home 3B Jordan Dean in the top of the ninth for an extra insurance run.
Cleburne 4, Lincoln 2 - Box Score
A four run fifth inning proved to be enough for the Cleburne Railroaders (6-4) to beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 4-2.
Lincoln scored the game's first run when LF Randolph Oduber (3-for-5) singled home 3B Christian Ibarra in the bottom of the first inning. The Railroaders took control of the game in the fifth inning with a rally that began with a sac fly from LF Nick Rotola that plated DH Kenny Meimerstorf. CF Zach Nehrir (2-for-3) and 3B Chase Simpson followed Rotola with back-to-back home runs to give Cleburne a 4-1 lead. The Saltdogs pulled one back in the sixth when 2B John Sansone (3-for-4) singled home 1B Curt Smith but that would be the final run of the game.
Lincoln's C Daniel Herrera added a pair of hits in the game.
Fargo-Moorhead 17, Texas 4 - Box Score
After dropping the first game of the series on Friday night, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (5-4) responded in a major way by taking game two 17-4 with the Texas AirHogs.
The RedHawks piled on 19 hits in the game including four doubles, a triple and three home runs. LF Brennan Metzger, CF Devan Ahart and 1B Chris Jacobs each had three hits in the game and Jacobs hit his second home run of the season. RF Tim Colwell, 2B T.J. Bennett, DH Correlle Prime and SS Yhoxian Medina all had a pair of hits. Medina as well as C Brian Olson also left the yard in the game.
For the AirHogs, four different batters each had one hit and DH Jonathan Moroney, 1B Cao Jie and RF Han Xiao each had one RBI.
Kansas City 5, Winnipeg 3 (Game 1/8 Innings) - Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones took game one of their Saturday doubleheader with the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-3 with two runs in the eighth inning of a game scheduled for just seven.
The game was tied at 3-3 after seven innings thanks to a sacrifice fly from 1B Casey Gillaspie that plated 2B Mikey Reynolds (2-for-5) in the top of the seventh. In the extra frame, Reynolds singled home pinch runner Ramsey Romano and then scored in the next at-bat when SS Darnell Sweeney (2-for-3) doubled. In the bottom of the frame, reliever Carlos Diaz came on to pitch and closed out the game without allowing a hit and earning the save.
For the Goldeyes, RF Josh Romanski went 2-for-4 with an RBI and SS Kevin Lachance and LF James Harris each added an RBI as well.
Winnipeg 2, Kansas City 0 - Game 2 In Progress
The second game of the doubleheader between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Kansas City T-Bones is still in progress. The Goldeyes were leading 2-0 in the third inning. For the full recap, visit www.americanassociationbaseball.com.
