Sioux City 6, St. Paul 4 (10 innings)
Sioux City scored three runs in the bottom of the tenth inning to beat St. Paul 6-4 at Lewis & Clark Park. Both teams were scoreless during the first four frames, and the Saints got on the board first in the top of the fifth and scored again in the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, Sioux City tied the score at 2-2. In the top of the eighth the Saints scored again, but the Explorers came back again to tie the score in the bottom of the ninth and bring the game to extra innings. The Saints scored one run in the top of the tenth, but the Explorers' three runs in the bottom of the inning were just enough to top St. Paul. Center fielder Dustin Jones led Sioux City with three hits, one run and one RBI in five at-bats, and second baseman Derek Schermerhorn chipped in two hits and one RBI. St. Paul recorded nine total hits, and designated hitter Ole Sheldon was the only Saint to register more than one. Sheldon led the Saints with two hits and one RBI in five at-bats. Eddie Delacruz, now 4-4 on the season, earned the win by allowing two hits, one run and striking out three in two innings pitched.
Gary SouthShore 5, Shreveport-Bossier 4
Center fielder Mike Massaro singled to bat in second baseman Chris Carrara in the top of the ninth as Gary SouthShore pulled away and edged Shreveport-Bossier 5-4 at Fair Grounds Field. The RailCats got on the board first in the top of the second inning when Mike Rohde hit an RBI double, and Gary SouthShore batted in three more in the third to take a 4-0 lead against the Captains. Shreveport-Bossier scored in the fourth when Uriak Marquez and Joe Urtuzuastegui each batted in a run, and the Captains added a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings to tie the score. After a scoreless eighth frame, Massaro had the winning RBI in the ninth to win the game for the RailCats and prevent extra innings. Three different RailCats had multiple hits in the game, and Massaro led with two hits, one RBI and one run in five at-bats. Shreveport-Bossier had 13 total hits in the game and third baseman Andres Rodriguez led the Captains with three hits, two runs and two RBI in four at-bats. Will Krout, now 3-1 on the season, earned the win by allowing one hit, no runs and striking out two in 2.2 innings pitched.
Grand Prairie 4, Wichita 0
Jason Jennings, now 7-1 on the season, led Grand Prairie to a 4-0 win against Wichita at QuikTrip Park by allowing six hits, no runs and striking out seven in seven innings pitched. Grand Prairie scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning when third baseman Cesar Nicolas hit a two-RBI double, and designated hitter Chris McMurray followed moments later with an RBI single to bat in Nicolas. The AirHogs got on the board again in the bottom of the third inning when Nicolas hit another RBI double and batted in second baseman David Espinosa. Both teams remained scoreless during the final six frames. Wichita recorded just six total hits, and no Wingnut had more than one. Nicolas was the only AirHog to register more than one hit, and he led Grand Prairie with two hits, one run and three RBI in four at-bats. Derek Blacksher, now 3-6 on the season, earned the loss by allowing six hits, four runs and walking four in six innings pitched.
Lincoln 10, Amarillo 5
Lincoln scored a pair of runs in four different frames as the Saltdogs beat Amarillo 10-5 at Haymarket Park. The Sox and the Saltdogs each scored two runs in the first inning, and Amarillo added one in the second to take a 3-2 lead against Lincoln. In the bottom of the third inning, right fielder Jorge Cortes and designated hitter Rafael Alvarez each batted in a run, and in the next frame catcher Jeff Howell hit a solo home run and left fielder Gavin Dickey hit an RBI single to give the Saltdogs a 6-3 lead. After both teams went scoreless in the fifth frame, Lincoln scored four of the next six runs to top the Sox. Lincoln registered 15 total hits, and four different Saltdogs had more than one. Dickey led Lincoln with three hits, three runs and two RBI in five at-bats, and Howell chipped in three hits, two runs and one RBI. Four different Sox recorded a pair of hits, and second baseman Lee Cruz led with two hits and three RBI in four at-bats. Tim Brown, now 6-6 on the season, earned the win by allowing five hits, three runs and striking out two in six innings pitched.
