January 7, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 1/7/08 -The Amarillo Gorillas announced today the signing of rookie forward Brett McConnachie, who comes to the Gorillas from the University of Alabama-Huntsville. McConnachie spent brief stints this season with the Fresno Falcons of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), and with the Oklahoma City Blazers of the CHL before joining the Gorillas this week. The 22 year old forward out of Ajax, Ontario becomes the sixth member of the 2007-08 Amarillo squad who played his collegiate hockey at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. The former Chargers on the current roster include Gorillas captain Keith Rowe, and rookies Shaun Arvai, David Nimmo, Chris Martini, Grant Selinger and now McConnachie.
The 5'11", 200 pound forward played his junior hockey in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL), and had his best offensive season in 2002-03, collecting 24 goals and 34 assists for 58 points in just 49 games. During his four year tenure at Alabama-Huntsville, the winger played in 132 games amassing 32 goals and 40 assists for 72 total points, adding 185 penalty minutes along the way.
In order to make room for McConnachie on the roster, the Gorillas waived forward Evan Affleck who had joined the club for their last three games, filling in while the Gorillas were short-handed with injuries.
Amarillo head coach Jim Wiley was excited to welcome Brett to the team, noting "Brett is a hard working forward with potential to be able to put up some numbers in our system, and we look forward to seeing what he can do in our lineup."
McConnachie will be in the lineup for the Gorillas this Wednesday, when they travel to Broomfield, Colorado to take on the Rocky Mountain Rage. Game time is set for 8:05 PM CST.
