
Oakley CHL Player/Goaltender of the Week Announced

The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending January 6th, 2008 are center Jeff Bes of the Laredo Bucks and goaltender Sebastien Laplante of the Wichita Thunder.
Bes wins the award for the second time this season (Week of October 22nd-28th). He is coming off a double-digit week with four goals and six assists in the Bucks four games played (3-1 during the week). The Tillsonburg, Ontario native is on an eight-game point streak (9-9=18) and has recorded multiple points in each of his last five games. The highlight of Bes' week came on Sunday in the team's 5-3 victory over Colorado in a re-match of last season's CHL Finals. In the game, the 6-0, 190-pound forward had a pair of goals and an assist and was named the game's first star. For the season, Bes leads the league with 55 points, 23 goals and a +33. Next week, Bes will start for the Southern Conference in the 2008 CHL All-Star Game. Laredo is in first place in the Southeast Division with a 25-8-2 record good for a league-leading 52 points.
Laplante has been on fire lately going 4-1-0 in his last five decisions. Last week, the Casselman, Ontario native went 2-0-0 allowing just one goal in each victory. He turned away 79 shots for a .975 save percentage. On Friday, the 5-10, 178-pound goaltender made 38 saves in a 4-1 victory over Texas and on Saturday he stopped 41 shots in a 2-1 victory over Rocky Mountain. For the season, Laplante is 7-9-0 with a 3.10 goals against average and a .910 save percentage. The Thunder are attempting to mount a charge heading into the All-Star break sitting at 9-18-0 on the season.
In recognition of their achievements, both Bes and Laplante will receive a special gift from Oakley.
