Kolarz Returns Home To Play

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-New Mexico Scorpions head coach Randy Murphy has announced defenseman Michael Kolarz is returning to the Czech Republic to play hockey. The rookie defenseman will play in the Czech Extraliga, regarded as one of the top pro hockey leagues throughout Europe.

In 31 games, Kolarz scored 14 points (4G, 10A) and amassed 45 penalty minutes. The Havirov, Czech Republic native was the youngest player on the Scorpions at only 20 years of age.

"We wish Michael the best of luck as he returns home to play hockey," said Murphy. "He is going to play in one of the best leagues and is very familiar with the coaching staff of his new team from playing in the World Juniors."

The Scorps will fill the open roster spot when Blair Stayzer returns from the injured reserve in time for Friday's game in Austin. The Scorpions will play one skater short when the road trip starts Wednesday in Corpus Christi.

Wednesday's game against the Rayz can be heard on 1050 KTBL starting at 5:50 p.m. and seen for free on the CHL Network.

New Mexico then returns home for a pair of weekend games starting on Friday, January 18th. When the Scorpions take the ice versus Odessa , they will wear specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the American Cancer Society.

On Saturday, January 19th the Special Olympics will be recognized when the Scorpions host Wichita . It is also "Jr. Jersey Night" with the first 1,500 youths inside the building getting a kids jersey courtesy of Peoples Mortgage. Prior to the game, the New Mexico Ice Holes will play the Media at 4 p.m. to benefit New Mexico Special Olympics.
