
Altoona Downs 'Wolves in Slugfest

The SeaWolves failed to take the opening series of the season and were left with a split as they fell in a slugfest on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park to the Altoona Curve, 10-7.
Altoona got on the board first in the top of the first inning against Erie starter Casey Crosby. Brock Holt led off the game with a single and moved to third on a Starling Marte double. Jordy Mercer grounded out, scoring Holt for a 1-0 Curve lead. Altoona would never trail in the game.
In the top of the second, Altoona opened up a 5-0 advantage. Jose Hernandez reached on a fielder's choice and moved into scoring position on a Holt single. Marte grounded home Hernadez for the second Curve run. Mercer doubled home Holt and Tony Sanchez capped off the inning with a two-run home run, his first.
The 'Wolves got on the board in the bottom of the second. Michael Bertram doubled to lead off the inning and he came around to score on a Bryan Holaday base knock to make it a 5-1 game.
In the third, Jeremy Farrell reached base on a one-out error and came home to score on a Hernandez two-out double, extending the Curve lead back up to five runs.
Erie cut into the lead once more in the bottom of the third. Justin Henry walked and moved over to third on a Jamie Johnson double. Henry and Johnson would score on consecutive groundouts to make it 6-3.
In the fourth, Marte led off and homered off of reliever Jared Gayhart for a 7-3 Altoona advantage.
The 'Wolves made it a three-run game once more in the sixth when Henry tripled home Audy Ciriaco who reached on a hit by pitch.
A two-run home run with two outs in the seventh by Farrell gave the Curve a lead of five once more at 9-4.
In the bottom of the eighth, Holaday lead off and homered for his first Double-A long ball. A one-out single by Ben Guez extended the inning and Johnson went opposite-field for his first home run to make it 9-7.
Altoona added one more run in the ninth and won by a three-run margin at 10-7.
The SeaWolves open a three-game series with the Binghamton Mets on Monday night.6:35 First Pitch. It will be the first Buck Night of the 2011 season!
