TODAY: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and New Britain Rock Cats will meet in the finale of a four-game series...The Flying Squirrels scored five runs in the seventh and eighth innings combined to break open a tight game and defeat the Rock Cats 6-2 on Saturday night at The Diamond.

TODAY'S STARTERS: Left-hander Clayton Tanner gets the start in the series finale for the Flying Squirrels...Enters the 2011 season rated as the #30 prospect in the San Francisco Giants farm system according to Baseball America...Spent the entire 2010 season with Richmond and went 9-9 with a 3.68 ERA in 27 starts...Struck out 79 batters and walked 64 in 149 innings...Struggled in May, going 1-2 with a 5.32 ERA in five starts...Placed on the Disabled List 5/18/10 before being reactivated 5/29/10...Went a combined 5-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 11 starts in June and July...Named an Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star, but did not pitch in the game...Went 2-3 with a 5.50 ERA over his final seven starts...Finished the season ninth in the EL in ERA...Had success at The Diamond, going 6-3 with a 2.73 ERA in 14 starts...Limited left-handed batters to a .190 batting average against...Walked three or more batters in 12 of his 27 starts including a season-high six on 8/13/10 against Portland...Made three starts against New Britain last season, going 0-0 with a 5.52 ERA (9ER/14.2 IP)...Only Flying Squirrel that is a member of the San Francisco Giants 40-man roster...Appeared in three 2011 Major League Spring Training games with the Giants...Allowed one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings while striking out one batter and walking five...Selected in the 3rd round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

Right-hander Steve Hirschfeld gets the nod in the series finale for the Rock Cats...Went a combined 0-0 with a 5.63 ERA in 15 games, four starts, across four levels on the Twins farm system in 2010...Began the season with New Britain and was placed on the Disabled List 4/16/10 with shoulder stiffness after appearing in just three games out of the bullpen...Activated briefly 5/3/10 but did not appear in a game before going back on the DL 5/8/10...Activated and made a rehab appearances the GCL Twins and one with Advanced-A Ft. Myers 8/2/10, allowing three runs on three hits in two innings...Rejoined New Britain 8/3/10 and went 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA in eight games, three starts (last three outings) in August...Allowed nine runs on 15 hits in 11 1/3 innings as a starter...Spent the entire 2009 season with Ft. HAPPY DAY: The Flying Squirrels play their first day game of the 2011 season in the series finale with New Britain...Last season Richmond went 12-9 during day games including a 5-2 mark in day games at The Diamond.

FRESH SQUEEZED: Flying Squirrels outfielder Justin Christian dropped a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning last night to score Johnny Monell with Richmond's fourth run of the game...It was the third time a Flying Squirrel batter has successfully executed a squeeze bunt...Juan Ciriaco laid down a squeeze bunt on 7/2/10 against Erie in the bottom of the 8th inning and Ryan Lormard executed a squeeze bunt 8/22/10 at Bowie in the top of the seventh inning...Richmond laid down three bunts in the seventh inning last night, including a bunt single by Mike McBryde and a pair of sacrifices from Sharlon Schoop and Christian.

DIAMOND DEBUTS: Right-hander Justin Fitzgerald followed Eric Surkamp's stellar debut on Friday night by tossing five scoreless innings last night and earned the win in Richmond's 6-2 victory over New Britain...The duo combined on nine scoreless innings, giving up five hits while striking out 12 and walking three...Overall, Flying Squirrels starters have posted a 2.63 ERA (4ER/13.2 IP) through the first three games of the season.

PROSPECTING THE SQUIRRELS: Eight members of the Flying Squirrels 2011 roster are ranked in the top-30 prospects in the San Francisco Giants farm system according to Baseball America...The group includes infielder Charlie Culberson (#8), left-hander Eric Surkamp (#9), outfielder Roger Kieschnick (#14), right-hander Jason Stoffel (#22), outfielder Juan Perez (#24), left-hander Ryan Verdugo (#25), catcher Johnny Monell (#28), and left-hander Clayton Tanner (#30).

FAMILIAR FACES: Seven members of the Flying Squirrels inaugural 2010 squad return to Richmond to start the 2011 season...Right-handers Daryl Maday and Ronnie Ray, left-handers Clayton Tanner and David Quinowski, catcher Aaron Lowenstein, and infielder Sharlon Schoop all spent time with the Flying Squirrels in 2010...Tanner and Ray spent the entire season in Richmond....Tanner and Maday were both named Eastern League All-Stars; however, neither were available to pitch in the game.
