Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The 72-year-old home of the Clinton LumberKings, Alliant Energy Field received some sparkling words recently, as Dave Hoekstra of the Chicago Sun-Times called the ballpark his "favorite destination" in his "Detours" column on April 19.

Hoekstra is including his detailed write-up of the home of the LumberKings in his book, Midwest League Field Guide (Cougars and Snappers and Loons, Oh My!), due for release next month.

The book is an anthology of his "The Glove Compartment" column on Midwest baseball destinations that has appeared in Kane County's game program since 1992. The book includes conversations with former Cougars pitcher Dontrelle Willis and Iowa singer-songwriter Greg Brown, as well as a forward from former Minnesota Twins pitcher Jim Kaat.

An excerpt from his article:

"Baseball fans and roadies always ask about my favorite Midwest destination to see a minor league game. I send them to Clinton, Iowa, 173 miles from Chicago. They are never disappointed."

The LumberKings will host the 2009 Midwest League All-Star Festivities on Monday, June 22 and Tuesday, June 23. For tickets and more information, call 563-242-0727 or visit www.lumberkings.com.
