Budweiser Clydesdales to Make Appearance at Community Field

Burlington, IA (April 27, 2009) - The famous Budweiser Clydesdales will make an appearance at Community Field for Community Basket Day on Sunday, May 17th the Bees announced today. The Hive will be their last stop in a five-day visit to the Burlington area.
Each "hitch" or team contains eight horses. To qualify for one of the hitches, a Budweiser Clydesdale must be a gelding with an even temperament and strong, draft horse appearance, be at least four years old, stand at least six feet at the withers when fully mature, and weigh between 1,800 and 2,300 pounds. In addition, each horse must be bay in color (a reddish-brown coat with a black mane and tail), have four white stocking feet, and a blaze of white on the face.
"We're excited to have the Budweiser Clydesdales at Community Field," says Bees General Manager Chuck Brockett. "This will make Community Basket Day an even more exciting day for our fans." This year's community basket is estimated to be valued at $20,000. The big item this year is a brand new Chevy Aveo from Deery Brothers. Other items in the basket include a new push lawnmower, jewelry from Becker's Jewelry, 20 cases of Pepsi products, and a night rental to the Lips to Go Hall of Fame Suite at a future Bees game.
The drawing will be held during the Bees game against Cedar Rapids on May 17th. Game time is set for 2:00 with the gates opening up at 12:00 noon. If the winner of the basket is present at the game that day, they will win an extra $1,000! Community Basket tickets are just $2 and can be purchased at the Bees office or at any Bees home game.
