
Allen steals one in overtime

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas found themselves in overtime again versus the Allen Americans Friday night, but Allen came up with the victory, winning 6-5.
Amarillo grabbed the game's first goal on their opening power-play opportunity. After missing nine games due to injury, forward Jake Morissette slapped a shot from the far circle where the rebound went right to forward Gordon Bell. The Gorillas Captain fired home his ninth goal of the season less than five minutes into the first period. Chris Cloud added a fight in the frame, as Amarillo ended the period with the 1-0 lead.
Each team tallied twice in the middle frame, including goals from Gorillas Joe Guenther and David Nimmo. After Allen forward Nathan O'Nabigon struck for the Americans, Anthony Battaglia and Joe Guenther countered less than two minutes later on a two-on-one scoring chance. Battaglia fend the puck cross-ice where Guenther blasted his shot past Allen goaltender Chris Whitley. In the later-half of the period, Nimmo sent the loose change in front of the Allen net past Whitley for his 18th marker on the season. At the end of two periods of play, Amarillo 3 Allen 2.
A thrilling third period included a total of five goals (Allen three times Amarillo twice). Jake Morissette and Jake Obermeyer both scored for the Gorillas and the game went to overtime. Allen took advantage less than two minutes into the overtime period, as Erik Adams drifted a pass toward Gorillas netminder Tuomas Lohtander where forward Jarrett Lukin tipped home his tenth goal of the season. Final score in overtime, Allen 6 Amarillo 5.
Amarillo has scored 9 power-play goals over their last 7 home games...With a second period goal and assist, Joe Guenther has 5 points over his last 3 home contests...David Nimmo continued his home point streak to 5 games with a second period goal.
Amarillo will hit the road tonight to face the Tulsa Oilers tomorrow, Saturday, February 13th. The game broadcast will start at 7:25pm CST and can be followed on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV. Fans will have an opportunity to win an autograph photo of Stuart MacRae during the second period of the game broadcast by answering a trivia question on the Gorillas' Facebook page.
