Alfaro Named PCL Batter of the Week

METAIRIE — The New Orleans Zephyrs, the Class AAA Pacific Coast League Affiliate of the Houston Astros is pleased to announce that Zephyrs infielder Jason Alfaro has been named the Pacific Coast league Batter of the Week for July 28 – August 3.

Alfaro, 25 from Ft. Worth, TX. batted .500 (15x30) for the week with four doubles, three home runs, eight RBI and seven runs scored. He currently has a nine game hitting streak (19x38, 5HR, 14RBI, 10R) with two or more hits in all nine games. Alfaro is batting .320 (82x256) with 20 doubles, seven home runs and 39 RBI on the season and is batting .354 since starting 3 for 33.

Alfaro is the second Zephyr in a row to win Batter of the Week following Colin Porter's efforts last week. He is the fourth Zephyr to win a weekly PCL award this season as Rodrigo Rosario and Doug Sessions were named pitcher of the week earlier.

The Zephyrs continue a four game series at Zephyr Field against the Las Vegas 51's on Monday at 7:05 PM. Doug Sessions (6-3, 2.61) is scheduled to start for the Zephyrs and Masao Kida (2-3, 4.88) for the 51's.The game can be heard on WTIX-AM 690 and at www.zephyrsbaseball.com with Tim Grubbs and calling the action.
