Alen Hanson Named International League Player of the Month
Published on June 1, 2015 under International League (IL1) News Release
The International League announced today that Indianapolis second baseman Alen Hanson has been named the League's Player of the Month for May.  Along with winners from other leagues, Hanson will receive an award from Minor League Baseball in recognition of his performance last month. Â
Alen Hanson collected four hits on the first day of May and hasn't cooled off since.  For the month of May, he led the International League with a .362 batting average, 42 hits, 16 extra- base hits, five triples, 69 total bases, 22 runs scored, and a .595 slugging percentage.  He led the charge as his Indians club went 18-Â11 in May to move 3.5 games in front of the West Division, now owning the League's winningest record at 30-Â21 overall.  Fifteen times during the past month Hanson collected multiple hits, including five straight games between May 17-Â22.  He legged out five triples in May and is now tied for the League-Âlead on the season with six overall.  Hanson also leads the circuit this season with 89 total bases while he's currently 2nd in the IL with 60 hits and 30 runs scored.  Hanson's honor comes exactly a decade after the last member of the Indianapolis Indians to claim an IL Player of the Month Award, which was pitcher Zach Duke in May 2005. Â
22-Âyear-Âold Alen Hanson is in his sixth season as a professional player after signing with the Pirates as a 16-Âyear-Âold non-Âdrafted free agent in 2009.  He spent his first full season at the Double-ÂA level in 2014 with Altoona, where he was an Eastern League All-ÂStar.  Hanson made his Triple-ÂA debut this April with Indianapolis; he has yet to receive his first call to the Major Leagues.  Hanson is a native of La Romana, Dominican Republic.Â
