Albany River Rats News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA - Chris Terry broke a 1-1 tie late in the second period and Albany tacked on three unanswered goals in the third to earn a 5-1 victory over the Springfield Falcons on Sunday afternoon at the Mass Mutual Center.
River Rats leading scorer Jerome Samson chipped in three assists in the contest for his 74th, 75th and 76th points of the season, while Terry, Jacob Micflikier and Zac Dalpe netted a goal with one assist each in Albany's third straight win.
The River Rats out-shot the Falcons 12-7 in a scoreless opening period and drew first blood at 6:26 of the second, when Terry drove across the net mouth and dished against the grain to Jiri Tlusty for an open put-away. Falcons forward Chris Minard banged home a Chad Wiseman feed at the edge of the crease for Springfield's only goal at 13:59, but Terry gave the River Rats a 2-1 lead with 2:01 remaining in the second stanza, when his 2-on-1 centering feed to Samson bounced in off of a Falcons defenseman.
Micflikier made it a two-goal game just 1:48 into the third period off of a strong wrap-around feed from Samson. Nicolas Blanchard than set-up an easy put-away for Dalpe at 16:32 to give the River Rats a 4-1 lead on the rookie's fifth goal in his fifth professional game. Mike Angelidis closed out the score sheet with 1:01 remaining on a power play rebound tally.
River Rats goaltender Justin Peters stopped 28-of-29 shots faced to earned his 24th win of the season as Albany improved to 41-27-3-5 this season. Falcons goalie Jean-Phillippe Levasseur stopped 29-of-34 shots faced and took the loss, as Springfield dropped to 24-36-11-4 this year. The River Rats out-shot the Flacons 34-29 in the contest and went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Springfield was 0-for-4 on the man-advantage.
