Akron Sweeps Series Against Harrisburg

(Akron, Ohio) May 14, 2014 - The Akron RubberDucks (26-13) played longball Wednesday morning, clubbing three home runs to sweep the three-day series against the Harrisburg Senators (11-26) at Canal Park, winning the outing 4-2.

The win is Akron's sixth in the seven-game homestand, and marks their 10th victory in their last 12 home games. The team has won 16 of their last 18 outings overall, and are in sole possession of 1st place in the EL West.

Following an RBI double by Harrisburg's Cutter Dykstra, Akron's Tyler Naquin cracked a home run in the first at-bat for the Ducks, evening the score at 1-1 in the first. An RBI Double by Jordan Smith sent Ronny Rodriguez across the plate in the second, giving the RubberDucks an early 2-1 lead.

Alex Lavisky launched a fly over the left field wall in the fourth, his third home run of the season and extending the lead to 3-1. Kevin Keyes followed suit for the Senators, parking a home run to center field in the seventh to close in on the Ducks lead, 3-2.

Rodriguez put an insurance run on the board for Akron with a home run to left field in the eighth, bringing the Ducks lead to 4-2. The homer was Rodriguez's second of the season, following his grand slam in the continuation of Monday's game against the Senators.

Akron starter Gabriel Arias (5-2) picked up the win for Akron after seven innings pitched, allowing seven hits, two earned runs and one walk. Reliever Tyler Sturdevant (1.59) earned his fourth save on the season, pitching the final two innings of the series and recording his sixth straight scoreless outing.

Brad Meyers was charged with the loss for Harrisburg after pitching four innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs.

Following an off day Thursday, the RubberDucks will head to Jerry Uht Park Friday at 7:05 p.m. to begin a three-game series against the Erie SeaWolves. Joseph Colon (2-2, 2.50) will start for the Ducks, and Warwick Saupold (2-4, 5.50) for the SeaWolves.

The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2014 season is its 18th since moving to Canal Park and its first since becoming the RubberDucks.
