Try Again Tomorrow: Curve Fall to B-Mets 5-3

Binghamton, N.Y.- The Altoona Curve dropped game two of the series against the Binghamton Mets 5-3 Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, N.Y. With the loss, the two teams have each won one game in the series and Altoona aims for the series win Thursday night.

The Curve struck first in the game in the second inning thanks to a two-out rally. Keon Broxton started the rally with a double to left then scored when Willy Garcia hit an RBI single to left.

In the third, Altoona tacked on another run to take a 2-0 advantage. After Jarek Cunningham led off the inning with a double, he advanced to third when Joely Rodriguez hit an infield single. With runners on the corners, Gift Ngoepe grounded into a double play that plated Cunningham from third.

Binghamton began to chip away at Altoona's lead and eventually took the lead in the fifth. After an RBI sacrifice fly by Kevin Plawecki in the fifth cut Altoona's lead to 2-1, the B-Mets tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Altoona brought the lead down to one in the sixth inning thanks to another two-out rally. After Mel Rojas, Jr. hit a double, Stetson Allie followed with an infield single and a throwing error allowed Rojas to score from second on the play.

Rodriguez (1-4) took the loss for Altoona after he allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits over five innings while striking out a season-high seven batters. Greg Peavey (3-1) picked up the victory and Chasne Bradford earned his seventh save of the season in eight opportunities.

Altoona (15-22) will wrap up their final game against Binghamton (19-16) at NYSEG Stadium on Thursday with a 6:35 first pitch while pregame on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.

RHP Adrian Sampson (3-2, 2.27) will take the rubber for the Curve in the series finale and he will square off against B-Mets southpaw Darin Gorski (3-1, 3.03).

Altoona will return to Peoples Natural Gas Field on Friday, May 16 for a seven-game homestand. The Curve will start a six-game homestand against the Richmond Flying Squirrels for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch and postgame fireworks for the fans.
