Doubleheader Sweep at the Diamond

The Baysox used the long ball to claim both end of a doubleheader in Richmond, taking the opener 5-3 before sealing up a 7-4 victory in the nightcap. Bowie's three home runs in the doubleheader were all momentous, propelling the club back into second place.

In the opener the home runs came early. In the second inning with a runner aboard, 2B David Adams homered to left field to put the Baysox up 2-0. The next batter, C Michael Ohlman, followed suit going back-to-back with his first home run of the year to up the lead to 3-0. It was the second time Baysox hitters have hit back-to-back home runs this year.

Matt Bischoff (2-2) started the opener and went five innings for his first win as a starter. Veteran reliever Luis Ayala labored through a two-run inning before giving way to RHP Oliver Drake who shut the door on a 5-3 win for his seventh save. Drake struck out the side in the inning.

The Baysox quickly found themselves behind in game two. Richmond DH Mario Lisson hit a two-out, two-run home run to gain the early lead.

Bowie battled back though. CF Dariel Alvarez tripled to open the second inning and later scored on a SAC fly from RF CHih Hsien Chiang. C David Freitas then doubled and scored on a game-tying two-out double from 3B Niuman Romero.

The big blast then came in the fifth inning. After consecutive two-out singles, 1B Christian Walker crushed his eighth home run of the year, a three-run home run to left field to push the Baysox to a 5-2 lead. Bowie held on to win 7-4.

With the doubleheader sweep Bowie has a chance at a series sweep in the four-game set in Richmond Thursday night. The three-game winning streak is the longest for the Baysox since winning four in a row to open the season. Interestingly both seven-inning games lasted 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Bowie has a chance for the sweep on Thursday, May 15th with Jake Pettit on the hill for the 6:35 p.m. start. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior with the Baysox On-Deck Show on wnav.com.
