
Fightin Phils Complete Sweep in Extras

Three games in a row the Fightin Phils had to come from behind to get a victory over the Fisher Cats as they finished off the sweep with a 5-4 win. Jesse Biddle pitched six shutout innings in a no-decision effort as he struck out seven batters despite giving up four walks and two hits.
For the third straight game, the Fisher Cats took the lead first as Kenny Wilson scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on a throwing error by catcher Lars Davis after stealing third base. The Fisher Cats added another run in the bottom of the 7th inning off Fightins reliever Colton Murray as Andy Burns scored a run on a throwing error by catcher Lars Davis after stealing third base.
Also for the third straight game, the Fightin Phils fought back from an early deficit. They scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Anthony Hewitt scored a wild pitch by Tyler Ybarra and Carlos Alonso hit a two-run home run to score Lars Davis to give Reading the lead. The home run was the third of the season for Alonso and extended his hitting streak to five games.
Anthony Hewitt hit his first home run of the season off Fisher Cats reliever Tyler Ybarra in style, an inside-the-park home run that gave the Fightin Phils a 4-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning. New Hampshire struck right back in the bottom of the ninth inning with back-to-back home runs off Hector Neris to tie the game at 4-4.
Cameron Perkins provided the biggest hit of the day as he hit a two-out RBI double off Fisher Cats reliever Randy Boone to give the Fightin Phils a 5-4 lead.
Tyler Knigge earned his first save of the season as he retired the side in the bottom of the tenth inning. Ryan Demmin threw 2/3 of an inning in his 2014 Fightin Phils debut.
The Reading Fightin Phils are off on Thursday and resume play in Baseballtown on Friday as they welcome in the Bowie Baysox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm from FirstEnergy Stadium.
