Chesapeake Baysox News Release
BOWIE, Md. - LHP Keegan Akin was dominant over 6.2 shutout IP and the Bowie Baysox (17-16) kept it rolling at the plate with 13 runs on 15 hits in a 13-0 shutout of the Hartford Yard Goats (19-15) on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie.
Akin (4-3) gave up four hits to go along with a walk and six strikeouts over his 6.2 IP. The southpaw is now 4-1 with a 1.48 ERA in his last five starts.
Four different Baysox had multi-hit games: Austin Hays (2-5, R), Audry Perez (3-5, 2B, HR, 5 RBI, 2 R), Ademar Rifaela (2-4, 2B, R) and Mike Yastrzemski (3-4, 3 2B, 4 RBI, BB, 3 R).
The five RBIs ties a career-high for Perez, the fifth five-RBI game of his career and his first since April 5, 2014 with Triple-A Memphis.
Yastrzemski's three doubles ties a franchise record, the first Baysox to record three two-baggers in a game since Ryan Mountcastle accomplished the feat on August 19, 2017 vs. Erie.
In a four-run second, a single and a double started the inning before Aderlin Rodriguez delivered an RBI single, Yastrzemski plated a run via an RBI groundout and Perez hit a two-run blast to give the Baysox a 4-0 lead. The home run was Perez's second of the season.
Yastrzemski drew a one-out walk in the fourth, took second on a groundout and scored on Erick Salcedo's two-out RBI single to extend the Bowie lead to 5-0.
Corban Joseph's two-run shot in the fifth off of Hartford starter Jesus Tinoco made it 7-0 in favor of the hosts. The home run was Joseph's second in his last five games and his fourth of the year.
Tinoco (4-3) allowed the seven runs on seven hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in 5.0 IP.
Bowie tacked on a run in the sixth as Yastrzemski led off with a double and scored on Perez's RBI single to stretch the lead to 8-0.
In the home half of the seventh, a pair of walks and a single loaded the bases with nobody out before Yastrzemski and Perez delivered consecutive two-run ground-rule doubles that gave the Baysox a 12-0 advantage.
Yastrzemski knocked in the 13th and final run of the night with an RBI double to score Joseph in the eighth.
RHPs Jay Flaa (1.0 IP, K) and Ryan Meisinger (1.1 IP, BB, K) both had scoreless outings in relief for manager Gary Kendall's squad.
The series continues on Saturday at 6:35 p.m. as LHP Jayson Aquino (1-0, 0.00) gets the start for the Baysox against Yard Goats RHP Peter Lambert (1-1, 1.83).
