Texas AirHogs News Release
LAREDO, Texas - The Lemurs scored 6 times in the bottom of the 9th to steal a walkoff win from the AirHogs in Laredo Friday in the opener of a 3-game set. The 6-run bottom of the 9th flipped an 8-3 deficit into a 9-8 win for the home side.
RHP Tyler Harris got the ball to start for the AirHogs and was solid, lasting 6 and surrendering 3 runs (0 earned). His offense built him a sizeable advantage by scoring 4 times in the top of the 5th and 4 times in the top of the 6th to get out ahead 8-3.
Juan Sanchez finished with 3 hits, and Brian Bistagne, Austin Gallagher and Leon Byrd all finished with 2. Byrd had 2 RBIs in the contest, and Michael Hur finished with 3. Bistagne, Gallagher, and Mike Miller all scored twice to help put the AirHogs ahead.
Richard Suniga and Alan Oaks each posted a scoreless frame in the 7th and 8th to send the AirHogs to the 9th with a 5-run advantage. Unfortunately, the Lemurs would get to Carlos Misell for 4 hits and 5 total runs. He handed the ball over to Tyler Ihrig after allowing a home run to Denis Phipps and an RBI double to Abel Nieves.
Ihrig entered with 2 aboard and 1 out. He allowed a single to Jesus Posso that scored Nieves on a close, controversial play at the plate. With the bases loaded, Leandro Castro would tag Ihrig for a walkoff single to the left field fence that scored JD Pulfer and pinch runner Ryan Beckman to complete the comeback for Laredo.
The AirHogs outhit the Lemurs 14-12. Ihrig absorbed the loss while recent Laredo acquisition Luis Pollarena picked up the win. The AirHogs (17-24) battle the Lemurs (24-17) once again at Uni-Trade Stadium tomorrow at 7:05. LHP Griffin Russell is expected to start for the AirHogs as they look to even the series vs. their South Division rivals.
