LOOKING AHEAD:
The week begins with a special 11:05 start this morning in Philadelphia, where the Phantoms will be out to continue their mastery of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Philly is 21-10-3 all-time in the regular season against their in-state rivals, and Phantoms captain Mark Greig has recorded 18+23=41 pts. in 32 career matches vs. the Pens. Philadelphia finds itself in unfamiliar territory: last in the South Division, two points behind third-place Wilkes-Barre.
Albany and Bridgeport square off at the Pepsi Arena tonight (7:00 ET) in a battle for first place in the East Division. The Sound Tigers went 6-1-1 against the River Rats en route to the best record in the AHL last season, but former Tigers Ray Giroux, Ken Sutton and Dave Roche have helped guide Albany's turnaround from a 54-loss campaign a year ago. Bridgeport comes into the game on a four-game unbeaten streak and 5-1-1 in its last seven.
Grand Rapids puts its 3-0-0-0 road mark on the line in Houston on Thursday (7:00 CT, 8:00 ET), where the Aeros have won all four of their games this year. After owning a 4-3-5 edge in last year's season series, the Griffins have already lost twice to the Aeros in 2002-03, by identical 4-2 scores on Oct. 18 and 24. Unbeaten in its last four, Grand Rapids sits atop the Central Division, while Houston's 11-1-0-0 mark is tops in the entire AHL.
