Niagara IceDogs News Release
Niagara IceDogs captain Andrew Agozzino recorded a hat-trick while Mark Visentin posted yet another shutout to lead the IceDogs to a 7-0 victory over the Barrie Colts Friday night at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
Seven different IceDogs recorded multi-point games, with Johnson Andrews picking up two goals to give him three in the last two games. Ryan Strome also notched another three-assist night to give him 60 assists on the season.
The first period was rather slow moving for both teams.
Tim Billingsley got the only penalty for tripping, which the IceDogs killed off. Ryan Strome created a few good chances for Niagara, but the game remanded scoreless after 20 minutes of play. Shots were 18-7 in favour of the IceDogs.
The 'Dogs changed the pace of things immediately in the second period as Ryan Strome made a perfect pass from behind the goal line to Alex Friesen, who proceeded to score a beautiful top-shelf goal to open the score just 42 seconds into the frame. The tally was his 24th of the season; a career high for Friesen, who scored 23 goals last year and 11 the season prior.
Andrew Agozzino then followed up with his 33rd goal of the season on the power play after batting in a Freddie Hamilton rebound to make it 2-0 IceDogs. Strome also picked up his second assist of the night on the play.
Niagara would carry the 2-0 lead into the second intermission, with Mark Visentin playing a solid game in net throughout the first two periods.
The IceDogs began the third period in a similar fashion to the second as Andrew Agozzino picked up his second marker of the game by blasting a shot from the point to make it 3-0.
Following Agozzino's goal, Myles Doan made a beautiful play by tipping in a shot from Steven Shipley to pick up his 7th of the season and give the IceDogs a 4-0 lead.
The goals just kept on coming for the 'Dogs as Johnson Andrews gave a solid individual effort breaking into the zone and proceeded to let a wicked wrist shot go to beat Clint Windsor on the blocker side, making it 5-0 IceDogs.
Moments later, Agozzino would pot his third goal of the night and 35th of the season to complete the hat-trick and increase the Niagara lead to 6-0.
With the Colts taking another penalty late in the game, Johnson Andrews was able to capitalize with the man advantage to pick up his second goal of the night on a similar play to his first.
The final score would be 7-0 in favour of the IceDogs, with Mark Visentin stopping all 26 shots he faced to post back-to-back shutouts in his home rink.
The IceDogs will return to action on Sunday, February 13 as they pay a visit to the division rival Brampton Battalion for a matinee game beginning at 2 p.m.
Fans can catch the game live on 105.1 The River and The OHL Action Pack, while TVCogeco will be rebroadcasting the game later in the day.
