
Spirit Complete Comeback Attack, Win 4-3 in Overtime

The Saginaw Spirit completed a come from behind victory to beat the Owen Sound Attack 4-3 in overtime. The Attack lead 3-1 to open the third period but the Spirit tallied two later in the frame to even up the score and defenseman Ryan O'Connor notched the game winner in overtime to secure the Spirit victory. O'Connor, who earned the game's first star honors, tallied two goals and one assist on the night. The Spirit lead the OHL West Division with 70 points and a record of 33-16-3-1.
The Spirit started off things early, scoring :20 seconds into the contest to make it 1-0. Center John McFarland notched his twentieth of the season in the play, with wingers Jordan Szwarz and Josh Shalla earning the assists. The Attack controlled the scoring in the second period, with the first goal a short hander tallied by an unassisted Liam Heelis. Owen Sound's Robby Mignardi moved the score to 2-1 with a goal from winger Garrett Wilson and center Joey Hishon at the 16:49 mark. The third period saw the Attack take a healthy two goal lead with defenseman Jay Gilbert at 6:32 in the frame.
The Spirit mounted a comeback in the third period, scoring two consecutive goals to tie up the game and force overtime. Defenseman Ryan O'Connor tallied his third of the season from defenseman Dalton Prout and Center Ivan Telegin at 12:40, then at 17:07 in the frame Telegin notched a power play goal from Szwarz and O'Connor. With the game tied at three apiece, the two teams squared off for a 4-on-4 5:00 minute overtime. Winger Brandon Saad and center Vincent Trocheck broke away from the Attack's defense to feed the puck to O'Connor, who tallied his second of the night to secure the Spirit win and the two points.
Spirit goalie Mavric Parks tallied 34 saves on 37 shots, while Owen Sound netminder Jordan Binnington posted 31 saves on 35 shots.
