Aeros Sign Kirk MacDonald

Houston, TX - Houston Aeros General Manager Jim Mill announced on Wednesday the team has signed forward Kirk MacDonald to a professional tryout agreement (PTO). Mill also announced forward Jamie Schaafsma has been released from a PTO.

MacDonald had played in 43 ECHL games for Reading prior to joining Houston. The 29-year old forward scored 13 goals and added 19 assists for 32 points with the Royals. The Victoria, BC native has played in 266 AHL games, mostly with Providence from 2008-12. For his AHL career, MacDonald has 45 goals and 60 assists for 105 points, to go along with 206 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder started his AHL career in Albany in 2007. He played collegiately at R.P.I from 2002-07.

Schaafsma made his AHL debut with the Aeros on Sunday, going scoreless. He returns to the Aeros Central Hockey League Affiliate, the Allen Americans. The 29-year old center has played in 41 games for the Americans this year, scoring 15 goals and adding 15 assists for 30 points.

The team embarks on an eight-game road trip starting on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Grand Rapids at 6 p.m. CT. The season-long trip includes stops in Grand Rapids, Milwaukee, Rockford, Texas, Rochester, Hamilton, Toronto and Oklahoma City. The team will travel 6,496 miles over 17 days prior to returning to home ice on Saturday, Feb. 27 to host the OKC Barons.
