Aeros Grab First with 6-1 Victory
December 6, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release
SAN ANTONIO --- The Houston Aeros scored three times in the first and second periods in a 6-1 victory over the San Antonio Rampage at AT&T Center on Tuesday night. The victory moved the Aeros into sole possession of first place in the American Hockey League's Western Conference.
Warren Peters scored twice for the Aeros and rookie Kris Foucault registered a goal and an assist. The Aeros climbed to 14-4-2-4 overall and 10-2-0-1 on the road. Jarod Palmer, Justin Fontaine and Joey Martin also scored goals, and Darcy Kuemper made 27 saves for his second win of the season.
Palmer bagged his third goal of the season 9:33 into the first period to put Houston up 1-0. A short-handed goal by Peters at 16:53 of the first started a three-goal outburst between the teams. San Antonio's Garrett Wilson answered with a power play goal to make it a 2-1 game but Foucault regained a two-goal Aeros advantage with his sixth goal of the season with two minutes left in the first.
Fontaine, Peters and Martin added goals in the second period. Fontaine's goal at 4:17 chased Rampage starting goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris, who made five saves on nine shots. Jakob Markstrom, who was assigned to the Rampage from the Florida Panthers earlier in the day, made nine saves in relief.
The Aeros play host to the Oklahoma City Barons on Thursday at 11 a.m.
