Aeros Add Forward McKenzie, Goaltender Nolan

HOUSTON (DECEMBER 6, 2011) --- Houston Aeros General Manager Jim Mill today announced that the American Hockey League (AHL) team has added forward Mike McKenzie and goaltender Rob Nolan.
McKenzie, 25 (4/29/86), posted 15 points (5-10=15) in 19 games with the Florida Everblades (ECHL) this season, good for second in team scoring. McKenzie split last season, his first a professional, between the Charlotte Checkers and Everblades. He notched one goal in 14 AHL games with Charlotte before being sidelined in late March due to injury and and finished second among Everblades rookies in scoring with 38 points (18-20=38) in 55 games.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Whitby, Ontario, native was named ECHL Rookie of the Month for December, 2010, after scoring nine goals and eight assists (17 points) in 14 games, including five multi-point efforts and a plus-5 rating.
McKenzie played four seasons at St. Lawrence University (NCAA), totaling 114 points (49-65=114) in 144 games. He served as assistant captain during his senior season and ranked first on St. Lawrence in plus/minus (plus-9), tied for first in game winning goals (5) and second in points (35).
Nolan, 25 (12/10/85) began the season with the Chicago Express (ECHL). He appeared in 12 games and registered a 6-5-1 record along with a 2.87 GAA and .901 save percentage.
He played last season with the Central Hockey League's Missouri Mavericks. In 44 games, he posted a 26-13-6 record and led the CHL in both GAA (2.07) and shutouts (7), and finished third in both wins and save percentage (.928). Nolan was recognized as the Most Outstanding Goaltender in the CHL, was named to the All-CHL Team, and also played in the CHL All-Star Game.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound netminder began his professional career with the Flint Generals of the International Hockey League (IHL) in 2009-10. He ended the season with a .912 save percentage and 2.89 GAA along with a 19-22-4 record. Before turning pro, the Sherwood Park, Alberta, native spent four seasons with Michigan Tech (NCAA).
The Aeros visit the San Antonio Rampage tonight at 7 p.m.
