San Antonio Rampage News Release
ASAN ANTONIO (March 20, 2011)- The San Antonio Rampage earned a point in the standings after a 3-2 shootout loss to the Houston Aeros on Sunday afternoon in front of a sold-out crowd of 7,649 fans and nearly 200 dogs at the AT&T Center. The Rampage now claim a 37-27-3-2 record good for 79 points.
Center Randy Robitaille posted one goal and one assist while left wing Alex Picard tallied two assists on the day.
After a scoreless opening frame, the Rampage were the first to score at the 5:25 mark of the second period when Robitaille tipped Jeff May's shot from above the right faceoff circle to the high stick side of Aeros goaltender Matt Hackett for a 1-0 lead. Picard supplied the second assist.
Just 35 seconds later, Houston evened the score to 1-1 after San Antonio netminder Matt Climie deflected Jeff Penner's shot to the right goal post where former Rampage player Jon DiSalvatore was positioned to punch it home into the lower right corner of the net.
The Rampage claimed a 2-1 advantage after Picard's backhanded pass from behind the net found leading scorer Matt Beaudoin in the slot where he snapped a shot to the upper left corner of the net 8:56 into the middle stanza. Robitaille provided the additional helper.
Houston evened the score to 2-2 as DiSalvatore sent a centering feed to Cody Almond, who flipped the puck over Climie's blocker and into the back of the net 7:08 into the third period.
Neither team was able to light the lamp before the end of regulation sending the game into overtime and eventually a shootout.
Rampage skaters Beaudoin and Robitaille lit the lamp for San Antonio but were unable to gain the advantage as Patrick O'Sullivan, Robbie Earl and Chad Rau scored for Houston giving them the 3-2 victory.
Climie finished the game with 25 saves on 27 Aeros shot attempts along with two saves on five shootout attempts while Hackett stopped 37 of 39 Rampage shots on net and three of five in the shootout.
The Rampage return to the ice on Wednesday night when they kick off a five-game road trip at Rockford MetroCentre to face the IceHogs for a 6:35 p.m. puck drop.
