Hutton Hot in 3-2 Win Over Monarchs

MANCHESTER, NH- Carter Hutton made 37 saves and Benn Ferriero scored twice as the Sharks took game 3 of a 4 game road trip with a 3-2 win over the Monarchs on Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Worcester trails the Whale for the 3rd and final guaranteed playoff spot in the Atlantic Division by four points with 10 games remaining. (CT defeated SPR 3-1).

Tommy Wingels extended his point streak (5-2-7) to six games with an assist and Patrick Davis scored the other Worcester tally.

Worcester came out of the gates with a chip on their shoulder and carried the majority of the play in the opening period and charged out to a 2-0 lead. Patrick David (5th) deflected in a Frazer McLaren backhand shot from the right circle past Jeff Zatkoff at 12:00 to give Worcester a 1-0 lead. Benn Ferriero (14th) sent a slap shot from the left circle top shelf on the power play at 18:11 to give the Sharks a 2-0 advantage. Tommy Wingels received the primary assist to extend his point streak to six games on the power play score.

Carter Hutton made 11 saves in the middle period to keep the Monarchs at bay and Benn Ferriero scored late in the frame to put Worcester ahead 3-0. Ferriero (15th) jammed in a rebound after a 3-on-2 rush that saw a Mike Moore drive stopped by Zatkoff at 19:34. Worcester led 3-0 after two periods of play despite being outshot 26-22.

The Monarchs made things very interesting in the third period with two goals in the opening six and a half minutes. Oscar Moller (23rd) fired a laser just inside the cross bar from 40 feet past Hutton to get the Monarchs on the board at 1:45. Corey Elkins (18th) found a lucky bounce land on his stick on the power play at 6:19 to make the score 3-2 Worcester. Carter Hutton made several spectacular saves late in the game as the Sharks help on for a 3-2 victory.

The Sharks record improves to 32-26-4-8 with 76 points and to 14-16-2-4 on the road. Worcester has 10 games remaining on their 80 game AHL regular season schedule (6 home, 4 away)

Brandon Mashinter, Justin Braun and Andrew Desjardins are currently on recall with San Jose.... Tommy Wingels extended his point streak (5-2-7) to six games... Benn Ferriero now has six goals in six games vs. the Monarchs this season.

The Sharks four game road trip concludes on Tuesday morning at 11am in Portland for a battle of the Unum Cup Challenge.
