Gustafsson Returned to Phantoms

The Philadelphia Flyers have returned defenseman Erik Gustafsson to the Adirondack Phantoms.
Gustafsson played in his second and third NHL games on what was his third NHL call-up this season. He played in the Thursday, March 17 game at Atlanta and the Saturday, March 19 game at Dallas. He made his NHL debut on a previous call-up in a February 26 game in Ottawa.
His first call-up to the Flyers was December 29 through January 3.
Gustafsson, 22 (12-15-88), was signed by the Flyers as a free agent on March 3, 2010. He has 5 goals and 31 assists this season for 36 points. He leads the Phantoms in assists and also is first among all AHL rookies. His 36 points is tops among all rookie blue-liners in the league.
Gustafsson represented the Adirondack Phantoms at the AHL All-Star Classic in Hershey on January 31st. In the skills competition on January 30th he won the puck-handling contest helping the Eastern Conference to a 19-7 win. And then in the All-Star Game the next night, he contributed two assists and was +3 in helping the Eastern Conference to an 11-8 victory over the Western Conference.
A native of Kvissleby, Sweden, Gustafsson joined the Phantoms for five games last season following the end of a three-year career at Northern Michigan University. He scored two goals and added five assists for seven points in those five games. Over three seasons at Northern Michigan, Gustafsson posted seven goals and 86 assists for 93 points in 123 games.
