Rallo Leads Texas Past Manitoba 5-1

Winnipeg, MTB, Canada - The Texas Stars (36-24-4-6, 82 points) defeated the Manitoba Moose (38-27-1-5, 82 points) 5-1 in front of 11,889 fans at the MTS Centre on Sunday. Right wing Greg Rallo led the way with a hat trick, netting a power-play goal, regular strength goal and a shorthanded goal in the lopsided win. Rallo's hat trick was the Stars first of the season. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (23-16-5) stopped 31 of 32 in the win. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus and center Travis Morin each had two assists as Texas finished 2-2-0-1 on its recent five-game road swing. Right wing Sean Backman and center Mathieu Tousignant each had a goal as the Stars improved to 18-14-1-3 on the road this year. Moose goalie Eddie Lack (24-19-3) was pulled after Texas beat him four times on 22 shots in 31:46 of work. The Stars return home on Tuesday at 7:30 PM to host the Houston Aeros.
Texas jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead with goals by Sean Backman and Greg Rallo. Texas opened the scoring at 6:50 of the first period as Rallo picked up the puck behind the Moose net and played it off the back of the leg of Moose goalie Eddie Lack. Rallo's 22nd goal of the season was assisted by Sean Backman and Maxime Fortunus. The Stars made it 2-0 at 12:25 as Sean Backman scored off a rebound in the crease. Defenseman Philip Larsen and center Travis Morin each had an assist on the rookie's seventh goal of the year.
Texas expanded its lead to 4-0 in the second period. The Stars capitalized on their first power play of the day at 11:11. Greg Rallo got a loose puck down in the Moose crease and slipped it into the net for his second goal of the night and a 3-0 Texas lead. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus and forward Colton Sceviour each had an assist on Rallo's 23rd goal of the season. Texas pushed the lead to 4-0 just 43 seconds later as center Mathieu Tousignant beat Eddie Lack with a wrist shot from the high slot at 11:54. Tousignant's ninth goal of the year was set up by Raymond Sawada. The goal ended the night for Manitoba goalie Eddie Lack, who was pulled after stopping 18 of 22 in 31:46 of work.
The Moose cut into the Stars lead at 4:38 of the third period, trimming the Texas lead to 4-1. Center Joel Perrault scored his fifth goal of the year off blast from the point that whistled through traffic and past Richard Bachman. The Stars closed out the scoring with an empty-net, shorthanded goal by Greg Rallo at 16:15. Travis Morin and Brad Lukowich each had an assist on Rallo's 24th goal of the year and third goal of the night. It marked the Stars first hat trick of the season.
Texas returns home to face the Houston Aeros on Tuesday, March 22nd at 7:30 PM. Fans may bring in any H-E-B store branded non-perishable food product to the game to receive $5 off your ticket price.
