Milwaukee, WI--Donning the police and fire department themed sweaters, the Milwaukee Admirals paid tribute to the men and women who protect the citizens of Milwaukee with a 2-1 victory over the Houston Aeros on Saturday night at the Bradley Center.

It wasn't until the 11:12 mark of the first period that the Aeros registered their first shot on net, which resulted in a goal. The tally came off of a two on one rush that was completed when centerman Morten Madson snapped in a one-timer before Milwaukee netminder Pekka Rinne could cover the near post. Houston had a few of chances the rest of the period, but Rinne, fresh back from his stint with parent club Nashville, remained solid between the pipes.

Milwaukee would put out the fire just 13 seconds later as Matt Ellison followed up on a rebound shot by Mike Santorelli that was kicked away by Houston netminder Barry Brust. Ellison fired a wrist shot that slipped though Brust's legs as he was sliding into position. The goal was Ellison's 26th of the season.

Milwaukee grabbed the lead at the 6:12 mark of the second period on Andreas Thuresson's 10th tally of the year. The play got started when Milwaukee defenseman John Laliberte flipped the puck out of the Admirals' zone before Thuresson picked it up and streaked towards the Areo net. Thuresson let go of a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that sailed over his left shoulder.

The Ads and Aeros came out buzzing to start the third period and neither team let up. Both teams had offensive opportunities, but Rinne and Brust stood tall. Milwaukee's best opportunity to score came on a Matt Ellison shot that bounded off of the post. The Admiral defense took center stage as they successfully killed off two penalties late in the period.

Mike Santorelli, Cody Fransen, and John Laliberte each picked up an assist on the night, while Janne Niskala was +2.

With the win, Milwaukee is now tied for third with Houston and San Antonio in the West Division. The victory pushed the Ads closer to locking up a playoff spot as they now need to earn just one point in their final four games to wrap up a post-season berth.

Milwaukee continues their Texas tour as they play host to the San Antonio Rampage tomorrow afternoon at the Bradley Center. The game has large playoff implications as both teams fight for playoff position. Face-off is at 4:00 PM.
