Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Chicago Wolves scored three times in the opening 3:09 en route to a 6-4 win over the Peoria Rivermen on Saturday night.
Brett Sterling and Jesse Schultz each scored twice and three other Wolves players added multi-point efforts in the victory.
Trent Whitfield got Peoria on the board at 2:37 of the opening frame to tie the game at 1-1 on a power play goal from Jean-Guy Trudel and Nicholas Drazenovic.
Chicago's third goal of the night spelled the end of the game for Marek Schwarz (1 save) who was replaced by Chris Beckford-Tseu (18 saves, L).
After the Rivermen fell behind 4-1 early in the second period, Jim Jackson tallied his first AHL goal on the power play at 4:38 with help from Micki DuPont and Mike Glumac.
Trudel would give the team some life, pulling Peoria within a single goal with just 12.2 seconds remaining in the middle frame by beating Ondrej Pavelec over the shoulder with a screen in front from his own defense.
Joey Crabb recorded his seventh goal of the year, a shorthanded marker at 6:11 for the eventual game-winning goal.
Ondrej Pavelec (25 saves) made several spectacular stops in the third period before giving up a soft goal to Ryan Glenn at 14:59 to get Peoria within one once again as the puck squeezed in between the right arm and body of the Wolves netminder.
Joe Motzko secured the victory with an empty net marker at 19:07.
With a 2-1 win over Houston Saturday, both the Milwaukee Admirals and Aeros are now just one point away from clinching playoff berths. The San Antonio Rampage, which travels to Milwaukee tomorrow at 4 pm, can clinch a berth with a win.
Peoria battles the Aeros tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm on Peoria Journal Star/Comcast Cable Family Fun on the Run Day. All upper bowl tickets are just $1 for kids 12-and-under, and from 2-3 pm there will be $1 hot dogs, Cokes, and bags of chips for all! Plus there will be inflatables, face painting and balloon animals for the kids, and the final post-game skate with the Rivermen.
Tickets are on sale now for all remaining Rivermen home games through the Peoria Civic Center Box Office, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, all TicketMaster locations, or charge by phone at (309) 676-8700.
