LOWELL, Mass. - Despite a 41-save effort by goalie Frank Doyle, the Lowell Devils fell in the shootout to the Providence Bruins by a final score of 2-1.
After sixty-five minutes of hockey were unable to decide the game, the two teams headed to the shootout. Defenseman Brett Skinner converted on Providence's first chance and his goal stood tall for four full rounds. Mike Pandolfo had one last chance to extend the shootout in the top of round five, but his wrist shot rang off the post to give the Bruins the victory.
Providence helped Lowell get the first goal of the contest just 80 seconds into the first period as Jonathan Sigalet misfired on his clearing attempt and put the puck over the shoulder of his brother, goaltender Jordan Sigalet. Petr Vrana was given credit for the tally, his 20th of the season.
Though the Devils would be skating on the power play less than three minutes later, it would be the Bruins tying the score when Jeff LoVecchio picked off a pass at his own blueline and took it the distance at 5:12 for a shorthanded goal.
Though unable to score on four power play chances, Lowell was a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Devils finish their weekend tomorrow on the road against the Hartford Wolf Pack at 4:00 p.m. Tune into 980AM-WCAP to hear Ryan Johnston bring you all of the play-by-play action.
