Admirals Set Sail on 2010-11 Season This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. - After splitting a pair of preseason contests last week, the Norfolk Admirals will begin the 2010-11 regular season on Saturday on the road against the Binghamton Senators.

The Admirals played a pair of pre-season games against their newest rival, the Charlotte Checkers. On Friday at Norfolk Scope Arena, Riley Nash netted a hat trick to lead the Checkers to a 5-3 win over the Admirals. On Sunday in North Carolina, Dustin Tokarski stopped 22 of 23 shots and Mike Angelidis had three assists to lead the Admirals to a 4-1 win over the Checkers.

Norfolk opens the 2010-11 regular season in Binghamton, New York, with a 7:05 p.m. puck drop on Saturday against the Binghamton Senators. The Admirals will then return to Hampton Roads to prepare for their home opener weekend on Friday and Saturday, October 15 and 16, against the Worcester Sharks at Scope.

ADMIRALS' LOG

- The Admirals have opened the season on the road five times since the 2000-01 season and have two wins, two losses and one overtime loss in those games.

- Norfolk has never opened the season against the Binghamton Senators.

- The Admirals went 4-3-1-0 against the Senators last season including a 2-1-1-0 record at the Broome County Veteran's Memorial Arena. Norfolk is 41-20-0-1-0 all-time against Binghamton with a 19-11-0-1-0 record on the road.

- Former Admirals Head Coach Steve Stirling (2007-08) is now an assistant coach with Binghamton.

- Mike Angelidis led the Admirals in points, assists and plus/minus during the preseason. He recorded four points on four assists with a plus-six rating in the two games.

- Matt Fornataro led the Admirals with two goals and 13 shots on goal during the pre-season.

- Dustin Tokarski led the Admirals with one win, a 1.00 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage in the preseason.

OCTOBER 15 IS MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT

The Admirals will hold their first Military Appreciation Night of the 2010-11 season during the first home game of the season on Friday, October 15. The Admirals will be facing off against the Worcester Sharks (AHL affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks) at Scope starting at 7:30 p.m.

Red Level Tickets (normally $14) will be available for just $9 at the Norfolk Scope Box Office for all active or retired military, their dependents and reservists with valid military identification. SKATE WITH THE ADMIRALS AFTER THE OCTOBER 16 GAME

On Saturday, October 16, the Admirals will hold their first post-game skate of the season where fans can skate at Scope with their favorite Admirals following the game. A limited amount of skates will be available free of charge or fans may bring their own skates.
