Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Barons received good news today from their parent club, the Edmonton Oilers. Six players including: defensemen Shawn Belle and Richard Petiot along with forwards Ryan O'Marra, Alex Giroux, Ben Ondrus and Liam Reddox were all officially assigned to join the Barons.

The six players were placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Oklahoma City by Edmonton yesterday. They were eligible to be picked up by any of the other 29 NHL teams for a period of 24 hours. Once the waiver period had expired, all six were officially assigned to Oklahoma City.

"This is good news for our hockey team," said Barons head coach Todd Nelson. "All of these players have proven they can compete at this level, are big and skate very well. I look forward to having the entire team here so we can practice together and get ready for the opener on Saturday."

The Barons season opener is this Saturday at home against the Houston Aeros. Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Cox Convention Center. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets including the Cox Convention Center box office, online at ticketmaster.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.

NOTES: The Barons released Chris Cloud and Dan Ridel from their tryout agreements. Both players have signed with the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League.

The Barons also named Chad Weprin Strength and Conditioning coach. Weprin, 41, owns a Masters degree in Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology. He began his career at the major junior level in the United States Hockey League and has worked in the ECHL with Pensacola and Augusta and in the CHL with the Wichita Thunder.
