
Admirals Ready for Home Cooking this Thanksgiving

NORFOLK, Va. - After playing 11 of their last 12 games on the road, the Norfolk Admirals now look forward to some home cooking as they drop the puck on a six-game homestand tomorrow night at Scope.
Last week, the Admirals split a two-game series in St. John's, Newfoundland, against the St. John's IceCaps. On Friday night, Trevor Smith and Tyler Johnson each scored twice as Norfolk claimed a 6-2 victory. The following evening, St. John's goaltender Peter Mannino stopped 35 of 36 shots as the Admirals fell, 3-1.
Norfolk's six-game homestand begins with three games this week. Tomorrow night, the Charlotte Checkers come to town for the third time this season in another Admirals Value Night, featuring Family Fun Packs and Student Rush Night tickets. The Providence Bruins then visit Scope on Friday and Saturday nights. Friday Night is Diabetes Awareness Night to benefit the EVMS Strelitz Diabetes Center. Saturday night is March of Dimes "Hockey Night for Healthy Babies." Saturday's game also features a giveaway of Admirals trading cards and a post-game skate with the Admirals. STANDINGS UPDATE
At 10-7-0-1 (21 points), the Admirals are in second place in the American Hockey League's East Division and are in fourth place in Eastern Conference. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 10-4-1-3 are alone atop the East division with 24 points. The Hershey Bears (7-4-3-2, 19 points) trail Norfolk by two points while the Syracuse Crunch (7-6-2-1, 17 points) are four behind Norfolk with 17 points. The Binghamton Senators (6-10-1-1, 14 points) round out the East Division.

ADMIRALS' LOG
- After playing 11 of their last 12 games on the road, the Admirals will begin a six-game homestand tomorrow evening against the Charlotte Checkers.
- Norfolk went 6-6-0-0 during the 12-game stretch from October 23 - November 19.
- Only the Abbotsford Heat (13) have played more road games than Norfolk (12) this season, while only the Connecticut Whale and Chicago Wolves (5) have played fewer home games than Norfolk (6).
- Tomorrow's game is the fourth game of the GEICO Challenge Cup between the Admirals and Checkers. Norfolk currently leads the series with four points (2-1-0-0) over Charlotte's three points (1-1-1-0).
- Friday and Saturday's games against Providence mark the first time the Bruins have visited Norfolk Scope Arena since February 27, 2009. The Admirals have already won both games against the Bruins played at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Rhode Island this season.
- Providence captain Trent Whitfield will return to Norfolk Scope Arena after playing part of his rookie professional season in 1998-99 with the Hampton Roads Admirals (ECHL).
- Rookie Cory Conacher is on a seven-game point streak (5g, 4a) - a season high for Norfolk.
- Conacher already has two point streaks this season of six or more games. The Admirals only had four point streaks of six or more games during the entire 2010-11 season.
- Conacher has recorded points in 15 of 17 games for the Admirals this season and is tied for third in the AHL with 21 points this season.
- Rookie Carter Ashton has points in 13 of 18 games and goals in 11 of 18 games this season. He remains tied for the AHL lead in goals with 12 while tying for ninth with 19 points.
- Rookie Tyler Johnson recorded his first multiple goal game on Friday at St. John's. Johnson is tied for 12th among AHL rookies with 12 points.
- Veteran winger Trevor Smith is tied for second in the AHL in plus/minus at +12. He joins defenseman Mark Barberio and forward Pierre-Cedric Labrie (both +11, tied for fourth) in the top five of plus/minus in the league.
- Smith trails only Conacher on the team in scoring with 20 points. He is tied for sixth in scoring in the AHL. He also is tied for the AHL lead with three game-winning goals.
- Barberio remains the top-scoring defenseman in the AHL with 16 points.
