HOUSTON (NOVEMBER 22, 2011) --- News and notes from the American Hockey League's (AHL) Houston Aeros, the primary affiliate of the National Hockey League's (NHL) Minnesota Wild.

THE SKINNY

The Aeros (10-3-1-4, 25 pts.) earned four of a possible six points last weekend and sit two points out of the top spot in the AHL's West Division. Houston dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the Texas Stars at home on Friday, but rebounded with a 5-1 win over the Stars at Cedar Park on Saturday. The Aeros earned a point in a rare 1-0 shootout loss to Abbotsford on Sunday. The Aeros are undefeated in regulation in their last four outings (2-0-1-1)

NOTABLES

Houston ranks eighth in AHL attendance with an average of 6,069 through 10 home games... Casey Wellman sits right behind a four-way tie for the top goal scoring lead in the AHL with 11... Wellman's seven power play goals lead the league... Chay Genoway is second among AHL rookies with six power play helpers... Genoway is tied for sixth among AHL defensemen with 11 points (1-10=11) and is second in assists... Jeff Taffe is tied for the AHL lead with nine power play assists... Goalie Matt Hackett is fifth in the league with 342 saves... Houston's 3.22 goals scored per game is sixth overall while they are eighth in goals allowed per game (2.61)... The Aeros have won four straight road games and are 6-1-0-1 overall away from home.

AEROS WELCOME OVER 3,500 MILITARY MEMBERS

The Aeros welcomed over 3,500 military members and their families at Friday's annual Military Salute Night at Toyota Center. Nearly 300 different businesses and individuals donated to the event making it possible for active duty and retired armed services personnel to attend. A full list of donors is posted on Aeros.com. Some of the groups in attendance included the Texas Lonestar Korean War Vets, VA Hospital of Houston, American Legion #472, 75th Battle Command Training Division US Army, University of Houston ROTC, US Coast Guard and Marines 4 Life.

DOG DAY AT THE HOCKEY GAME

Over 400 dogs and owners attended Sunday's Chilly's Pet Pals game at Toyota Center. The Aeros helped the Houston Humane Society, which sponsors the annual event, provide new homes to 11 dogs from their mobile pet adoption service.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS

Schools from around Houston will experience hockey with an educational twist on Dec. 8 at 11 a.m.... Get to the game early on Dec. 9 and you'll get a special Aeros Wearable Blanket to cozy up those chilly winter nights courtesy Sunny 99.1 FM... Bring a stuffed animal for the annual Teddy Bear Toss on Dec. 16 to toss on the ice when the Aeros score their first goal of the game... Dec. 26 is the annual Guns & Hoses Game presented by Tait Radio Communication as the Houston Fire Department and Houston Police Department square off the ice after the Aeros game.
