Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - In their final weekend prior to the Christmas break, the Milwaukee Admirals (23 Games Played, 15-7-0-1, 2nd place Midwest Division, 6th place Western Conference, 12th place AHL) will face their final three game in three night stretch of the 2011 calendar year. The Admirals will host North Division leading Toronto (26 GP, 15-7-3-1, 1st place North Division, 2nd place Western Conference, 4th place AHL) Friday night, then on Saturday will travel to Rockford (26 GP, 10-13-1-2, 5th place Midwest Division, 15th place Western Conference, 28th place AHL), before returning home Sunday to take on Peoria (28 GP, 12-14-1-1, 4th place Midwest Division, 10th place Western Conference, 22nd place AHL).
Friday evening's contest will mark the first of two meetings against Toronto this season. Last year Milwaukee swept the home-and-home series against the Marlies, picking up a 1-0 shootout victory at home on Jan. 8, and then following that up with a 3-1 victory in a matinee in Canada's largest city on the first of March. In the past five years Milwaukee owns a 7-1-0-2 mark in 10 games against Toronto, which finished with a record of 37-32-1-10 a year ago.
Saturday marks Milwaukee's first road trip of the season to Rockford and the teams' second contest in a span of a week. Last Sunday, in the Midwest Division rivals first meeting of the season, the Admirals earned a 5-4 shootout victory over the Ice Hogs. Milwaukee's Ryan Ellis (Hamilton, Ontario) and Michael Latta (St. Clements, Ontario) each scored on Rockford goaltender Alec Richards during the shootout, while Admirals goaltender Jeremy Smith (Dearborn, Michigan) stopped all four of his opponents and made 16 saves in the game. Rockford owns a 5-9-0-0 mark in 14 prior games at the BMO Harris Center (formerly known as the Rockford MetroCentre, capacity 10,000) this season.
On Sunday, Milwaukee returns to the Bradley Center to face a Rivermen team that the Admirals defeated in all four of their prior meetings this season. The Admirals latest victory in the series came in a 3-2 decision at Peoria on Dec. 3. Milwaukee forward Gabriel Bourque (Rimouski, Quebec) scored the game winning goal at 15:39 of the third period, while goaltender Atte Engren (Rauma, Finland) made 29 saves. Dating back to last year, the Admirals have won five straight games in regulation against the Rivermen. Peoria's last win of the series was on April 3, 2011 (4-3 at Milwaukee).
