Chicago Wolves News Release
The Chicago Wolves, in conjunction with the American Hockey league, announced today that Wolves right wing DARREN HAYDAR will serve as a playing captain for the Western Conference team at the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic, to be held January 29-30 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. HAYDAR ranks first on the Wolves and ninth in the AHL with 19 assists and paces the team and shares eighth in the league with 27 points in 24 games this season.
The 32-year-old forward ranks fifth on the Wolves all-time scoring register with 281 points (95G, 186A) in just 225 games with the club spanning four seasons (2006-08; 2010-present). He was awarded the Les Cunningham Award as the AHL's most valuable player and John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the league's leading scorer after posting a career-best 122 points (41G, 81A) in 73 games with Chicago during the 2006-07 campaign.
The Milton, Ontario, native became the 22nd player in AHL history to notch 700 career points on Dec. 10. Overall, he has amassed 701 career points (259G, 442A) in 663 AHL games spanning 10 seasons with the Wolves, Milwaukee Admirals, Grand Rapids Griffins and Lake Erie Monsters. He made hockey history while with the Wolves in 2006-07, when he collected a point in 39 consecutive games to start the season, tying Wayne Gretzky's 1985-86 run with the Edmonton Oilers as the fourth-longest streak in professional hockey history. The streak, during which he collected 79 points (24G, 55A), is both an AHL and franchise record.
HAYDAR, who is the AHL's all-time leading scorer in postseason competition with 135 career Calder Cup playoff points (59G, 76A) in 105 games, also appeared in 39 playoff games with Chicago, which includes captaining the team to the 2008 Calder Cup championship. The title was his second, after winning the Calder Cup with Milwaukee in 2004.
The University of New Hampshire graduate and 2003 AHL Rookie of the Year has also appeared in 23 career National Hockey League matchups, tallying eight points (G, 7A) with the Nashville Predators (2002-03), Atlanta Thrashers (2006-08) and Colorado Avalanche (2009-10).
HAYDAR, who will be making his third career All-Star Classic appearance, becomes the first Wolves player to serve as a playing captain in the AHL All-Star Classic.
The 2012 AHL All-Star Classic will feature the 2012 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 2 p.m on Sunday, Jan. 29 and the 2012 AHL All-Star Game at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30.
