Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators halted a four game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Adirondack Phantoms Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Mike McKenna turned away 33 of 34 shots while Rob Klinkhammer and Stephane Da Costa scored third period goals to help propel the B-Sens past the Phantoms.
The game would get off to a rocky start. Ben Holmstrom's dump in from the neutral zone took an odd bounce, slipping past McKenna 3:19 into play to give the Phantoms an early 1-0 lead.
Binghamton answered just past the midway point of the first though to knot the game at one. David Dziurzynski carried the puck in from the neutral zone and snapped a quick shot in high on Michael Leighton to even the score. Mike Bartlett drew the lone assist on the play.
The teams remained deadlocked until the 2:29 mark of the third period. Klinkhammer popped a puck up and over the shoulder of Leighton to give the B-Sens a 2-1 edge. Corey Locke and Brandon Svendsen earned credit for the assists. The assist was Locke's first point since Oct. 28 as the forward made his return to the line-up after missing 20 games with an upper body injury.
Da Costa added some insurance, giving the B-Sens a two-goal cushion after deflecting in Eric Gryba's shot from the point with 2:33 remaining in regulation. Dziurzynski earned the secondary assist on the goal, his second point of the game.
Binghamton ended the night 0-for-2 on the power play. Adirondack was 0-for-1 with the man advantage.
The Binghamton Senators are back in action tomorrow as they host the Atlantic Division's Worcester Sharks. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating. Fans can purchase tickets at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or in person at the Binghamton Senators' executive office or the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office.
